Family's Affected by Suicide

Donation protected
Our 6th annual signature philanthropy event, Fall Ball, focuses on spreading suicide awareness to Colorado State University and the Fort Collins community. This event will be held on CSU Campus on December 1, 2017 and will begin at 8:00 pm. Based on the facts that an average of over 1,000 suicides occur on college campuses every year and suicide is the second-leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 24, we feel this is a very relevant topic throughout all college campuses. Within the past few years at CSU, we have had multiple on-campus suicides, which shocked everyone at the time. It was at a time in our chapter in 2013 that we decided to focus our philanthropy on something closer to home where we can really make a difference. Besides CSU, Larimer County has one of the highest suicide rates in all of Colorado with just over 80 deaths in 2015 alone.

We will have guest speakers share their personal experiences and a pledge banner which attendees can sign with either words of encouragement, a pledge to themselves, or someone else in a stand against self-harm. The event is free and open to all; students, faculty and the community. In the past years, we have had our attendance reach to almost 300 attendees and we hope to break that 300 milestone this year.

This program is an opportunity for the attendees to become more aware of this issue and learn how to read the signs of and approach or comfort an individual who may be at risk. We hope that this can become one of the largest Suicide Awareness events in Fort Collins.

Throughout the event, there will be break intervals where we will have giveaways of prizes in the form of a raffle that all attendees will have the chance to participate in upon entrance at the door, completely free of charge. This is where we reach out to our local community businesses, in search of donations that can contribute toward the success of this event by providing any products or donations.

By providing prizes or donations, we can help market donating businesses to our attendees in return for the help to increase attendance of Fall Ball, as well as contribute to the efforts in the Northern Colorado community toward those affected. Any support offered is greatly appreciated by us at Beta Gamma Nu and all our attendees. We thank you for your time; members of the Fall Ball committee or Philanthropy Service Chair within the fraternity will be following up within the next few weeks.
