Pass the Torch is a grass roots movement advocacy group made up of parents and teachers alike that support public education in the state of Oklahoma. We at Pass the Torch strive to provide a singular, non-partisan message that public education must be a top priority and that our children deserve the brightest of futures.
We are excited to be throwing a Pro-Public Education outdoor benefit concert on June 23rd at the Guthrie Green in Tulsa, OK. “School House Rock” will be a multi-faceted event in which we try to accomplish many goals to further our vision of having a Pro-Public Education Primary. Our overall goals for the event are as follows:
1. Engage Community- Bring the focus in the communities back to public education right before the primary election on June 26th.
2. Literature- Pass out information to help voters make their own informed decisions on pro-public education candidates. This will include pamphlets with well thought out questions to ask candidates, to help identify who is pro-public education. Secondly, we will be passing out information pamphlets on how to host your own debate with local candidates.
3. Registration- Pass out voter registration forms to encourage new voters to participate in the election this fall.
4. Teacher’s Voice- Give the teachers and students an opportunity to voice their experience with budget cuts over the past decade and show the condition of different schools throughout our state.
5. Remind them to Vote- Get the media involved to remind people to get out and actually vote the following Tuesday.
In order to accomplish this we will need funds to put on the concert. These funds will go towards rental fees, promoting the event, entertainment, printing, staffing, equipment, etc. Any funds raised above and beyond what is needed for the concert will be given to Pass the Torch to continue their advocacy for public education in the state of Oklahoma.
