F-100 Super Sabre Memorial Exhibit
The Friends of the Super Sabre (FSS) is an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization and our mission is to preserve the history for the F-100 Super Sabre; to honor those who served with it; and to inspire others to serve beyond self. The FSS’s primary objective is to facilitate the development and operation of the F-100 Super Sabre Memorial Exhibit. The FSS is currently collecting artifacts and memorabilia for the F-100 Super Sabre Memorial Exhibit at the Military Aviation Preservation Society (MAPS) Air Museum located at the Akron/Canton Airport, OH.
F-100 Super Sabre
The F-100 Super Sabre was the first supersonic jet fighter flown by the USAF. Four different models, totaling 2,272, of the jet fighter were built between 1953 and 1957. The jet was designed as an air-to-air fighter, but later models were modified to carry ordnance. During the cold war it sat nuclear alert throughout Europe. During Vietnam it provided interdiction missions and close air support for the Army and Marines troops on the ground. The F-100 flew 360,283 combat missions…more than any other fighter aircraft in Vietnam. The USAF Thunderbird aerial demonstration team flew the F-100 C and D models for a total of 12 years. It was a real “Work Horse” throughout its 45 years of service in the USAF, Air National Guard and four foreign countries.
Planned Memorial Exhibit
The MAPS Air Museum has provided a large room to display the memorabilia that we have already collected. We plan to display the artifacts in several vignettes that describe the complete and magnificent history of the F-100 Super Sabre. Additional funds are needed to complete the interior construction of the room to include lighting and air conditioning. Many display cases and partitions are also needed for the displays. A multi-media section will also be established to show old movies and stories from the pilots and maintenance personnel.
Museum Needs
Our organization relies solely on donations and has collected funds and memorabilia from former pilots, maintenance personnel and families. But, we need additional funds and artifacts in order to create the notable museum display that is desired. All funds donated through this GoFundMe account will be greatly appreciated by the Friends of the Super Sabre and will be used to complete this project, thus allowing many generations of aviation enthusiasts to view the displays and learn the great history of the F-100 Super Sabre.
If you desire to contribute F-100 Super Sabre artifacts or memorabilia, please go to our Friends of the Super Sabre web site to complete the process.
