Hi! (Me again.)
First, I give my sincerest appreciation to Barry, Shelley, Anne, and Liz. I appreciate their help with this campaign so very much. Their willingness to help really touches my heart, and I am deeply moved by their gestures.
Second, as of this writing, I'm only three months away from departure, and I need your help more than ever. Finding appropriate and affordable housing in London is quite challenging. Although I'd prefer a small studio to myself, rent (and taxes and renters' fees!) mean I might have to share in a common house. This has proved complicated since most common shares aren't interested in taking in a mid-fifties man. (During my searches I've had quite a few unexpected pokes and insults from rental contacts regarding this.) So...with one-third of tuition left to pay (about £7,000) and upcoming accommodation/living expenses, money is exceedingly tight, and I'm plotting my savings carefully. I've taken two part-time jobs this summer, and they're keeping me going, but I humbly have to ask for your assistance.
You might be able to offer a one-time gift or even provide a little each month. Whatever you can do. I’ve wanted this opportunity for so very long, and now that it’s within reach, I’m afraid of not being able to see it through to the end. I’ve learned so much about gratitude—and humility—because of this process, and I expect I’ll learn even more. If you are able to help support me in my endeavour to become a professor of Dickens and Victorian literature, I'll do you proud!
