Zulfiya's Fund

Spende geschützt
Zulfiya Shirinova, 20 year veteran of the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan, has been battling cancer for several years.  Recently the situation has worsened and doctors in Turkey have given her three months to live.  She is now in Israel seeking an operation and the prognosis from the medical team there is better.  Apparently, the surgeries, the first of which is scheduled for this week, will cost near 100K USD and transfer back to Baku $20K…a seemingly impossible amount of money.  PAS colleagues in Baku are desperately trying to find money among themselves and the Embassy communitiy raised over $7,000 in a few hours after announcing the campaign to the FSN Board.

The situation is urgent, her first surgery is today (11/1), and she needs our support.  Please join us in supporting Zulifya and her family in this time of need.

Caroline Savage is helping disperse these funds to Zulfiya's family in Baku.

Update 11/14/17

Friends, here is an update on Zulfiya. She is back in the hospital in Baku, surrounded by her family. PAS Baku staff were able to visit her for a few minutes and pass along their support at the end of last week. She underwent a major surgery in Baku, but was not able to have a second surgery due to her critical condition.

The FSN Board in Baku writes:
We were able to show Zulya the posters that we all prepared together, read the letters and messages to her! It was a great deal for her, she looked glowing and happy to see all the support! She was indeed touched. Her family and children are next to her and support her too.

As for the monetary contribution, Embassy staff collected the total of $12,497 (including $7,497 raised at https://www.gofundme.com/zulfiyasfund ) and 6,746 Azn as cash donations as of today.

$5,000 was paid for Zulya’s transfer from Tel-Aviv to Baku, 5,406 azn was delivered to her family to cover other needs.

PAS will work with clinic in Tel-Aviv to pay them $5,050 that Zulya owes for her stay in clinic.

On behalf of the FSN Board and PAS We would like to Thank everyone who has supported Zulya and her family so far.
