Helping the Smith Family

In 2018, shortly after having Evelyn, my doctor found a lump in my breast, we decided that since I was breastfeeding my newborn baby, we would just watch it. Fast forward to December of 2019, I went in for a follow up, and my lump had changed into something that looked more sinister. We decided that since I had already dealt with ovarian cancer, and had a heavy family history that we would do some genetic testing. Test results came back that I have a pathogenic mutation on the ATM gene. The ATM gene communicates with the cancer killing gene TP53, when either one of these genes malfunction, your risk for cancers is skyrocketed. We decided to do a surgery to make sure I didn't currently have cancer in my breast, and we would go from there. The mass was thankfully fat necrosis, but my journey was far from over. After consulting with a geneticist, and a breast surgeon, we collectively agreed that a prophylactic mastectomy with reconstruction at a later date  was the best decision. My risk of breast cancer is currently 88% after accounting for my genetic condition and family history. My first surgery will be January 30th, and I will be out of work for a least 1-2 months. I am blessed to have good medical insurance, so most of my visits and surgeries will be covered, this goal of this gofundme is to hopefully ease the financial burden as we move through the next few months of 4 people living on one persons income. Thank you so much for your donation, shares, time, etc. We truly appreciate it.
