Kellen Hancock Injury Relief Fund

During a high stakes sailing race, Kellen was aboard the XS with a few buddies going 20 knots when the rudder failed. The boat lost control facing out to sea so they took down the spinnaker and crashed into the rocks. In the midst of it all, a rope from the spinnaker wrapped tightly around Kellen's lower left leg as it tightened around the rocks and created tension on his leg cutting to the bone. Marty tourniqueted his leg which the doctor said saved his life. He was rushed back to shore and to VCMC where they did emergency surgery. His leg was barely hanging on and after two intensive surgeries, the surgeons have managed to save his leg. Kellen's positive mental attitude has not wavered in the process despite being left with massive medical bills, an inability to work, and a long road of recovery ahead.
