Zora Varholdt's Cancer Fund Raiser

Donation protected
Let me introduce you to my mom and dad Zora  (76 yrs) and John “Boots” Varholdt (77 yrs.) who have been married for an amazing 44 years.  In the 1990’s they decided to sell their home in the cities and move into their cabin on Big Sandy Lake in McGregor MN.  Their goal was to live out their golden years in God’s country after their many years of hard work.  Before they could retire and move up north they had to convert the little “weekend cabin” into a year round home.  They hired a local contractor who did plumbing, bathroom and some foundation work to convert it into a small but cozy home.

On June 30 2016, mom was diagnosed with Stage 3B lung cancer.  Unfortunately her cancer is non operable nor is radiation an option.  Being the strong willed women she is; she has chosen to endure chemo-therapy treatments to extend the time she has left.  This news has left our family especially my dad heartbroken. It is my parent’s wishes to remain in their little home of so many years until the time comes to be called home by our heavenly father.  Of course it is our family's desire to honor these very important wishes.  After 5 Chemo treatments we have learned the masses in mom's lungs have shrunk 35% and 40% in her lymph nodes between the lungs, most importantly the cancer has NOT metastasized anywhere else throughout her body.  Our family rejoices with the good news and it makes it easier to see mom endure the ugly side effects of chemo-therapy.     My dad is overjoyed.

Last week while doing fall chores it was discovered the plumbing underneath their home had ruptured;  it’s not known when this happened although it has been determined water has been leaking for quite some time as the floor joices are rotten which has caused the center of their home to sag, the poor plumbing work is the cause.  Unfortunately their home owner’s insurance will not cover this very expensive repair.  The only recommendation from insurance was to seek damage reimbursement from the original contractor; of course who we cannot locate. They have no equity in their home as a result of the housing crash and with the rising medical expenses they are not able to afford an increased loan payment.  The estimated cost of repairs received has ranged from $3,800.00-$6,000.00 to restore their home to a livable condition.

Although mom is loved by many in the community our family is unable to hold a public benefit because mom has no immune system; an unfortunate side effect of the chemo-therapy.   Mom is indefinitely deemed homebound and on oxygen 24/7, dad is right by her side.  The rising medical expenses have already strained the little bit of extra funds in their budget and they have no means to cover the cost of these major repairs. I have set up this GOFUNDME webpage to reach out for donations in order to raise the funds needed to complete the repairs, restore their little home and honor their wishes to remain their home until the time comes to be united with our heavenly father.   Thank you in advance for any and all donations large or small we are grateful for the support.
