Memorial for the Mogadishu victims

Remembering Zoobe: a national monument honoring the people who lost their lives; We dedicate this to the victims of Zoobe massacre: we honor The partner, the child, the parent, the friend, the husbands & those who’ve lost their lives On October 14 2017 in Mogadishu               The city of Mogadishu ( Xamar) was impacted by a car bombing which killed over 661 people and left hundreds seriously injured or missing. This horrific event was the biggest attack in the horn Africa. Group of university students decided to start raising awareness and healing process of the citizens of Mogadishu and everyone that have been affected by this tragedy event. Since the attack, we have been working on narratives on how to deal with this violence against citizens of Mogadishu and Somalia as a whole.  Our first project will be launching a meaningful dedicated to the people we have lost.   Memorial zone: In the wake of these horrific violent events, we categorically decided to propose commemorating the people we lost October 14 2017.  The vision is to design a memorial zone that provides a link to the zoobe incident in order to remind the Somali population and generations to come what occurred on 14 October 2017.  Finally, the zoobe zone will comprehend stories of loss, including names, ages and possible images of the victims. This memorial zone will be titled “Zoobe Monument” .   Trigger Warning:  For the decades, Mogadishu has been subject to horrific violence, with this we would like to recognize the victims of (Hotel shamo, hotel sahafi, Jazeerah, Lido Beach and the innocent people who lost their lives to violence in Mogadishu). We would like to note that this project may include difficult content such as carrying past trauma, and we wish to forewarn the Somali public about potentially disturbing content as we aim to create a feeling of mutual respect and sensitivity.   Deadline Date: October 14 2018 Location: Banaadir Somalia District: Wadajir Mogadishu
