Bob Needs Our Help!

Known as 'Jackson Bob' to many (and K1REC to fellow ham radio operators) at 80 years of age, Robert Cheney has lived a VERY full life, making many friends along the way. With a seemingly infinate array of skills and talents but limited financial means, Bob has lived a life of uncanny resourcefulness, frugality and self-sufficiency. He has no family locally.
During the past few years, Bob's living conditions and his health have deteriorated significantly. Several weeks ago he was rescued from his home (see picture on left) and was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with acute congestive heart failure. He has been hospitalized for several weeks and has responded very well to treatment, a warm environment and regular meals (see picture on right, taken recently at the cardiac rehab center). With his health care benefits now nearly depleted, the rehab center "releasing" him tomorrow, and no bed currently available for him at any nearby VA facility, Bob is now essentially homeless. (Returning to his dilapidated farmhouse where he was recently found, cold, hungry, confused, unable to manage daily tasks--and near death--is not an option.) So we are scrambling to find Bob a suitable temporary living situation where his short term needs for safe housing and ongoing medical care will be met until we can help secure the longer-term benefits he needs. Ideally, the temporary facility will be local, so his friends can visit.
At roughly $150 - $200 per day, the cost of assisted-living-type care is not insignificant. But if we all pitch in just a bit, together we can help Bob get safely through his present predicament. In the meantime we will continue to work on getting Bob secured in a more permanent place he can call home, so he can continue to regale us all with his musical heart and treasure trove of remarkable stories for years and years to come!
