Our Story

Hi, my name is Tim O'Leary, the problem that we are facing is a potential foreclosure of our home. The potential foreclosure was caused by medical illnesses and death in our family.  Back in 2005, my mother, my father,  and I together purchased the townhouse we lived in together.

In 2015 my mother then got sick and went into the nursing home.  Unfortunately, my parents did not do significant preplanning in the event of a nursing home placement.  As a result, the nursing home gobbled up virtually all assets of my parents, except the house. This included life insurance policies that would have otherwise come to me upon their passing, helping to keep the house afloat. Then, my father died quite unexpectedly in July 2015.

Although elderly, my father was healthy and spry. He passed away suddenly from a heart attack. This meant that his income was suddenly gone with no life insurance policy to replace it. The nursing home then grabbed all of my mothers’ money, and then my mother passed away in February 2018. The combined deaths, loss of family income, loss of assets due to illness, and the nursing home caused us to fall behind in our mortgage payments.

After the passing of my parents, two dear friends, Dr. Shirley Canniff, and her husband, Jeffrey Canniff, moved into the house and together we formed a Christian Prayer Community, under Dr. Shirley Canniff's non-profit religious organization Seek Christian Teaching and Worship Center, Inc.

Our prayer community is Bethel North Community House

Together with the rent the Canniff's paid and my income we were at least able to keep up with the current monthly mortgage payments.  But Jeffrey Canniff has been diagnosed with CML Leukemia and is no longer working.  Then I was laid off in June from my job in automotive services.  In September, the mortgage companies decided to stop accepting the current monthly payments and demanded the arrears be paid or they will foreclose.

There are 2 mortgage companies. This is because at the time my parents and I first bought the house, there were  2 mortgages (actually the original mortgage company misled us, they told us there would only be 1 big mortgage,  but they sprang the two mortgages on us at the closing. This was fraud but the mortgage company went out of business the next year and we were stuck with 2 mortgages).

The first mortgage is now held by Mr. Cooper, formerly Nationstar Mortgage. The arrears with them is $7,222; and the other company is Select Portfolio Services (SPS) and the arrears with them is $2,553, which totals $9,775 (thus our goal of $10,000 ).

The arrearages built up over about two years. The difficulties really began in earnest when my Mom went into the nursing home. For example, we would miss a payment, then pay the next couple of months, then miss a payment, and so on. It was not like we simply stopped paying for 5 months in a row. When my Dad passed, it was really crunch time. So over a period of time, we fell behind in both mortgages.

As mentioned above, when we formed the Bethel North Community House, we were able to stay current but then the companies demanded the arrearages, which we could not pay at once, and thus this campaign. With the help of God, once we stabilize here, we will begin to plan for the future growth and expansion of the prayer community.

Prior to this notice, from the above -mentioned mortgage companies,  our community was praying for a ministry expansion due to the fact that other prayer ministry associates that prayed alongside us had indicated a desire to be a part of our expanding prayer ministry as members of our live-in community.

Our hopes and dreams in this new expansion of our prayer community ministry once the above arrearage has been met is to host a series of inner healing retreats, provide medical outreach through our functional medicine wellness community program and to teach believers how to formulate an authentic Christian character and voice through our media platform and school of ministry.  However, in order to achieve this endeavor, we would need to pay the above arrearage and then develop a Future Vision plan for God's next move. To that end, we have a separate campaign for God's next move, whether it will be a larger community house or maybe even land where multiple people can live and form a prayer community with multiple ministry outreaches.

We are among the first contributors to our own Save Our Home Go Fund Me page.  We do this to demonstrate that we are fully committed to this project to save our home and our prayer community Bethel North Community House. We will continually be donating to our own Go Fund Me page as we together work toward our goal.

One thing we have all agreed to do as a prayer community is that we will raise up in prayer before the Lord every person who is a benefactor to our 'Save Our Home and Ministry Project'.  We invite you to make any prayer requests you have in the Comment section. The prayer requests can be for yourself, your family, or others.

When you contribute to any work of God, you are planting a seed.  Every seed will at some point bear fruit.  So when you help our Bethel North Community House, you will reap a blessing of some type, at some point.  It may not be tomorrow, but it will be when you need it.

The world knows this principle of sowing and reaping as "what goes around, comes around."  We pray that you will never face the potential loss of your home, but by helping another to save a home, if that need ever arises in your life, that blessing will come back to you.

We are just looking to pay the arrears.  If 200 of our friends and family members gave $50, we would hit our goal.  If 300 people gave $25, we would be at $7,500, pretty close to our goal.

Any amount, however large or small, will be greatly appreciated, and no matter what you give, we will add you to our benefactor prayer list.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We will gladly receive anything your heart tells you to donate. We bless you and your family, and we ask God to protect you, your health, your family, and your home - Amen

Sincerely,
Tim O'Leary
