THE MCGINNIS FIELD REMODEL

A Silverton Community Project Sponsored by

The Community of Silverton

Silverton is a wonderful community in which to reside, work, and raise a family.  We have great schools with terrific students and strong high school programs.  Additionally, there are a number of youth organizations in our community that provide experiences for kids and opportunities not available in some areas.  One need that we are beginning to address is an upgrade to McGinnis Field. Specifically, we are targeting three main areas and will build them in three separate phases; #1 A Synthetic Turf Football/Soccer Field,  #2 A New Track Surface, and #3 Upgraded Field Lights.  There are many groups, organizations, and community uses for a synthetic turf and new track surface as well as our school district needs.  This is an entire community project and will benefit children from our entire community in a variety of ways.  Some of these children may never play on a high school sports team.  This project will allow our community to provide opportunities for the kids to enjoy activities and be proud of the community in which they live.

The McGinnis Field Remodel

It is our vision to keep the school district funding to a minimum with no general fund dollars being used.  There are numerous things that our district does to help educate our children to be lifelong contributors to society.  This is an opportunity to give back to the high school and reward the students for all of their hard work.  It is our hope, that by keeping their financial involvement small, we will provide a facility that will last well over a decade for the use of all of our community from Silver Falls Soccer Club, YMCA and Pop Warner kids all the way to adult track use and City of Silverton events, without jeopardizing the needs of our classrooms.

Currently, The McGinnis Field is natural grass and offers limited playability due to rain and field deterioration.  At the present time, Silverton High School has a stadium, track, covered home bleachers, visitor bleachers, lights, two concession stands, and restrooms, but lacks the ability to use the facility on a regular basis.  The McGinnis facility is used less than 20 times per year including track and field season, during which time, the grass field portion is not usable.  Comparable facilities outside of Silverton use their facility in excess of 200 times per year and host upwards of 1500 events.

Turf fields will give youth and high school sports organizations practice space they might otherwise not have, especially when weather begins to impact availability.
