Please be aware this post contains a disturbing description of how our dog was tortured. It is being posted in the hopes of identifying the depraved man responsible so that he can be arrested, and also to warn pet owners. The family is offering a reward for any information leading to an arrest. We are trying to raise money to offer a 5 thousand dollar reward and pay for Sonya's vet bills
This is Sonya, a beautiful and loved pit-bull mix. She is sweet, friendly, and loving. Sonya went missing from La Cienega in Santa Fe on Wednesday, September 16th around 4:00pm. The following day, at 3:20am, the Albuquerque Police received a report of a dog being abused at the Motel 6 at 6015 iliff Rd NW (off of Interstate 40 and iliff Rd). The man responsible fled the scene in a grey four-door Hyundai. He was described as a Hispanic male of medium build, wearing a long-sleeved yellow shirt and blue jeans.
Sonya was badly abused. All four of her pads are missing. Her right ear was torn and left literally hanging by a shred. She was tasered and has multiple burn marks on her head. Her eyelashes are singed and the area around her eyes is burned. She has several cuts and burns inside her mouth. Her belly and legs are covered with multiple cuts and abrasions. How this sick and twisted man managed to do this much harm to our innocent Sonya in such a short amount of time is unimaginable. He needs to be identified, prosecuted, and locked up!
Animal welfare has exhausted all leads and is now turning the case over to Albuquerque Police. Officer Jerry Gallegos will be taking over the investigation. Clearly this savage needs to be stopped. I offer my gratitude to the individual(s) who called the police and helped rescue Sonya. She received excellent care at Smith’s Vet Hospital in Santa Fe and is recovering. Thank you, Hannah, and all the wonderful staff at Smith's. Sonya is now back home where she is being showered with love. After suffering this trauma, Sonya needs healing and we welcome all your prayers and healing/loving energy.
