Ziva's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Meet Ziva.   She made our world a better place when she came into it a short 9 months ago.   Almost immediately her doctors and her parents knew that there was some hearing loss.  She was fitted for her first hearing aides at 2 months old.  Her doctors became concerned about cafe au lait spots that she had begun to develop.  At 6 months she was sent for her first appointment at the Denver Children's Hospital to undergo genentic testing to find out if they were due to Legius Syndrome or NF1.    Here is what we do know about her condition:

NF1 is Neurofibromitosis 1.  It causes tumors along neurological and connective tissue.  These tumors are benign 80% of the time, but can still grow and cause other medical problems.  They can form in the brain, eyes, ears, and spinal cord.  It is also common for NF1 to cause developmental delays such as slower bone growth, bone deformities, muscle mass loss, and blood pressure issues.  There is also a possibility of cognitive loss and behavioral problems.  There are many many more possibilities, but even experts haven't found all the answers.

Again, Ziva has upcoming appointments.  She is currently being tested for hip dysplasia.  She is scheduled to see an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) in Denver. During this trip, she is also headed to the Denver Children's Hearing Clinic and will also be making a stop at the Radiology Clinic.  There she is scheduled to undergo an MRI brain scan and orbital scan with and without contrast.  Despite her age, doctors have ordered this due to current gross motor delays.  This trip will also include a visit to the Gastro Intestinal specialist.  It's a big trip with very little notice.   June 12th is the day that her family is to travel.

Today her mom found out that the appointments for this trip have yet to be approved by Medicaid.  There has also been no reimbursement for travel expenses that have already been incurred.  In addition to travel and medical expenses, the MRI alone comes with a $5,000 price tag.  If her medicaid does not come through in time, her parents will be responsible for payment in full at the time of the procedure.  It is not looking good.  Rescheduling is not really an option. Her dad is super busy at his work and has already altered his schedule to make sure that he can be travel with them.  Mom and Dad need answers for Ziva now.

Please, consider helping this young family as they navigate NF1 and all it's possibilities.  Please help find answers for this beautiful little lady.

Thank You.
