Zim's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Hi Everyone. I'm Kassi, and if you know me you know that I am really bad as asking for help, but in this case I really need it.

How do you put a price on a life? You really can't especially one that is so important to me. Zim is my special guy. He has been with me basically my whole adult life.  If you have known me for anytime you know my bond with him runs deep. Zim has made me smile and reminded me that there is good in the world in the darkest of times of my life.

Last month I found out that Zim has nasal cancer. This took me by surprise, as the only reason I took him to the vet was  for a runny nose. I wasn't expecting it to be anything serious, but instead my vet suggested I get a CT scan.

To do so, I drove to University of Illinois' Urbana Vet clinic,  because they are amazing and so much cheaper than Chicago prices.  It was an epic two days of driving back and forth 2.5 hours to Southern Illinois. This trip set me back roughly $2500 in medical expenses, as he needed biopsies as well as the CT. But so worth it, as these tests were able to provide the definitive diagnosis of Feline Nasal Adenocarcinoma.

The wonderful doctors at Urbana told me that my best treatment option would be to go to Purdue's Veterinary clinic  because they have state of the art radiation therapy, so that is where I went today. After the 2 hour car ride to Indiana,  I saw the Oncologists there and they provided me with a treatment plan to extend his life while ensuring his quality of life. The side effects are minimal,  as they make a custom mask to ensure the radiation targets the nasal tumor while minimizing contact with the healthy cells. The down side is that this process alone costs $1700-2000.

The next step once the mask is made is for Zim to get 4 radiation treatments  that will shrink his tumor. I wish I could say it would cure his tumor... but this is cancer we are dealing with. Radiation treatment has the estimated cost of $3000-3500.

Without radiation treatment, the doctors told me he will start declining in health in about 2-3 months and then I will need to euthanize when his quality of life declines.

I wish I could do this all on my own, but this expense is just too much for me to handle on my own, espcially with Mike and I saving up for our wedding in October.

Thank you in advance for you support. It means the world to me.
