6 years ago my pup Gavin saved my life during one of the darkest times of my life. I would not be the person you know today, if not for him. Today, Gavin, at just over 6 years old, is now fighting for his life against cancer and I am humbly sharing my story and also for your help to give him the fighting chance that he once gave me.

Hi, I'm Bill. This isn't just a story about another guy and his dog. This is Gavin’s and my story of survival, hope, and an unbreakable bond with him that was my lifeline.

In 2017, I was in a car accident that resulted in two emergency back-to-back shoulder surgeries, During my recovery I became trapped in the grip of nearly a year long opioid addiction. I tried to quit cold turkey and ended up in the ER, I was spiraling downward, I was Lost, and didn’t see a way out.

It was February 2018 Gavin came into my life as an 8-week-old rescue. He became my beacon of hope, and filled me with purpose and because of him, in less than 45 days my chemical dependency on opioids was eradicated. As the saying goes I rescued him, but he literally saved my life

Gavin has been more than a companion; he's been, my savior. Our journey together has been filled with joy, challenges, an unbreakable bond, and unconditional love.

On January 12th, Gavin was diagnosed with a grade 3 Mast Cell Tumor, the most vicious and fastest metastacising tumor for dogs. Dr’s were realistic and said saving him would be a long shot and would require basically 3 miracles.

1. Surgery to remove the tumor was going to have to perform as or better than expected
2. Radiation needs to perform as or better than expected
3. Chemo needs to perform as or better than expected.

At this point, I wish to share that I am no stranger to loss from this ugly terror.

I lost my dad in 1996 from cancer, he was just 55 years old.

In 2007 I lost my godson Gavin, whom I named my pup after, Gavin passed away at the age of 7 to Leukemia. I know so many of you have also had cancer affect your life in some tragic fashion or another and understand its torment.

So after deep soul searching, I decided that I owe Gavin every chance he could at living, because he is the reason I get to be who I am today! Plus I am just simply not ready to lose another being I love to this relentless, despicable disease.

With the odds stacked against me, I scheduled his surgery. On January 25th Dr Phillps of Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital was able to remove approximately 92% of the tumor along with 5 lymph nodes from his Pelvis, as well as a full tail amputation. We then had 2 long weeks in hopes the surgery would heal properly to even have a chance at Miracle #2 Radiation treatment. There is also the risk of the remaining tumor spreading before starting the Radiation

Up to this point. I have already spent about $9,000 out of Pocket but did receive an amazing $5000 donation from a nonprofit called “Live Like Roo” Which also helped in my decision to move forward.

I have also had many other offers and received a small amount of donations from some amazing persistent friends, however in good faith, I have been very hesitant and reluctant to ask for anything without knowing more about his surgery recovery.

Every night of the following 2 weeks was sleepless, grueling and long, I was beside myself numb, scared, and sad, but also remained hopeful. So, on Feb 8th Gavin was seen for his follow surgery follow up.

Aaaaaand He has responded better than expected!!! Of course, he F%#*ing did!!! He’s my dog!!! It’s safe to say Miracle #1 has happened!! Honest to god, I believe all the positive love and support, great vibes and good energy that everyone has sent has helped! Please keep it coming!!

It’s at this point I can and am choosing to move forward with radiation and Chemo. Gavin still has a long road ahead over many many weeks, but I now have hope and confidence that 2 more miracles are possible!

However, it is with humility that I admit, I simply can not do it on my own and if there is going to be ANY chance of saving him, I need to rely on the kindness of friends, strangers, dog and animal lovers far and wide, for help, and together we can all save my pup who saved my live 6 years ago.

This is my ask, If I have positively impacted your life in any way in the past 6 years, with either a life transformation, helped you solve a problem or two, or simply made you giggle, or brought a smile to your face, please donate what you can, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 dollars no amount is too smakk, anything will be welcome and cherished. You can find links and QR codes at savegavin.com for the different ways to donate.

I also ask that you share, share, and share my story some more with your entire network of friends family, co-workers, all your social media, Facebook, LinkedIn, and all the fellow animal lovers you know. I get it, I also understand times are tough for so many, so If you are not able to donate any money, simply sharing alone would be a tremendous help!

I owe the way I show up for you and for so many, to Gavin, because he saved my life and was the catalyst of my own self-transformation.

You can see can track my actual costs and treatment estimates at SAVEGAVIN.com. The Cost may seem insane and many people might not understand having decided to spend this magnitude of money to save just a dog, but there are those of you... Who do.
Your support is more than just funding treatment, it's the only fighting chance I have to save Gavin’s life as he once did for me. I will honor your donation, and spend it wisely, if there is excess raised I will be donating back to Live Like Roo Foundation and hope to give back beyond what they gave me. If you follow Gavin’s social’s I will do my best to keep them updated with his progress! Thank you so much! Thank you!

NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL!!!! AND SHARING THE FUNDRAISER IS JUST AS IMPORTANT!

SO PLEASE DO EITHER ONE OR BOTH!!!

Thank you so very much!
