It all started with a cough while Zenji was playing frisbee. Eventually the cough worsened until one night he was coughing so bad and wasn't able to breathe. We rushed him to the emergency room. They hooked him up to an oxygen tank and took X-rays of his chest. The vets told us he had an enlarged heart and fluid was built up in the lungs making it hard for him to breathe. He was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure at only 3 years old. This is especially sad news because this disease is usually found in much older dogs who have lived most of their lives already.
Our little guy went from being happy, healthy, playing frisbee, living life, to not being able to breathe within a matter of days. He lost a lot of weight and muscle mass. You can now see his ribs when he stands because he's so skinny.
The doctors told us we are going to have to put him on heart medication, medication to drain the fluid from his lungs, as well as multiple supplements to help his heart pump.
Unfortunately it doesn't stop there. Zenji has not only been battling this heart disease, the side effects from the medications he's taking has caused a significant amount of other problems throughout the rest of his body. The doctors diagnosed him with pre - kidney failure from one of the medications he's taking, he's had GI stomach issues, and his back legs are weak and he isn't able to walk for long.
This has led us on a wild goose chase trying to find underlying diseases on top of his heart failure. We've been to over 7 different doctors in 5 months, had 4 electrocardiograms $800 per (they use a very expensive machine to listen to the sound waves of his heart, which we will have to continue to do throughout his life.), had blood work done, stool sample tests, kidney tests, liver tests, etc.
After spending over $20,000 so far, we realized this is more than what we can handle ourselves financially; and unfortunately the expenses don't end here. We have to continue to buy Zenji's monthly medicine, food, shots, and suplements. We know we have a long road ahead of us; and we're willing to do anything for our boy.
The money from your donations will go directly to all of Zenji's monthly medical costs as well as any doctor visits and heart tests.
We want to give this little guy the best life we possibly can and really, anything you guys can give will help us out tremendously . Even if you can't give, just support and positivity would be greatly appreciated.
And please always remember to spread love, kindness, and compassion towards one another. Live everyday to the fullest, be here now and live in the present moment. Because you never realy know what you have until it's gone.
Thank you guys so much for your support and love, I don't know what we would do without you. For those of you that know us well, Zenji is our world, our pride and joy, the light in our life, and his health and happiness means the world to us.
