Kevin Edwards Family Hope Herbie

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read about my cousin and his family. This past Friday my cousin Kevin avoided a very serious accident. While on his way to the mechanic, Kevin pulled over after his recently purchased 69’ VW Bug died. After what seemed like a minor mechanical issue turned into a fiery roadside total loss, he was left shocked but safe, thanks be to God. I hope the following story touches your heart and encourages you to share some hope with this family.

In September of this year, my cousin Kevin, his pregnant wife Miranda, and their then 2 year old daughter Elizabeth moved from Peoria Illinois to Grand Junction Colorado. After arriving, they had to deal with a very shameful moving company that crushed boxes of personal items and caused them to have to sleep on the floor for almost a week because the moving company was late.

After this rough beginning to a new chapter in this young families life, Kevin stepped out in faith and started a private counseling practice in December of 2017, Anchor of Hope Christian Counseling, LLC. Holding a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling, Kevin took a big step towards his desire to use his education to help those who where in need of hope. In February, a healthy Adeline Edwards was born and this little family grew in love and size. Continuing to adjust to a new town and a new baby while building a new practice is a tall order. As you can imagine it can be discouraging and overwhelming in the beginning.

Ever since Kevin was a young child and saw Herbie the Love Bug, he has dreamnt of owning his own VW Bug. It was a symbol of fun, and excitement that brought him back to a simpler time. We all have our own versions and can relate. Now, having two young children, this was a joy and fun he had hoped he could share with his family but, it didn’t seem feasible. Wanting to support and encourage her husband, Miranda surprised Kevin with the decision to buy a used VW Bug. After a meticulous search for a good deal, Kevin finally found a 69’ bug that was in good condition and was a heck of a deal.

This brought excitement and a much needed shot of hope into this, at times, discouraged family. This bringing of hope is what Kevin hopes to do through his counseling. That is why his desire to own a “Herbie the Love Bug” goes beyond a hobby. The day of the fire, he was on his way to get a quote for a Herbie replica paint job. His plan was to use the vehicle to market his counseling practice as a symbol of hope to let people know there is help in the community for them.

The plans that were in store for this VW Bug and the hope it had already brought makes what happened on Friday 8/17 so difficult. Kevin had to stand on the side of the highway and face yet another blow of discouragement to his family as his beloved bug went up in flames and there was nothing he could do.

To keep costs down and stay within a budget, Kevin only had liability insurance coverage on the Bug so the fire was a total loss. I hope that this gofundme campaign can help this family recoup the costs from this unforeseen mishap. It was again a step a faith to purchase this project car. I believe there are people who can relate and want to help. I think there is enough division in our society right now. I hope we can unify and help out. Remember that any amount helps. Thank you again for taking the time to read their story and thank you in advance for any help you can give. God Bless You!!
