Stephen Kinderman Cancer Fighting Fund

This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to write.  On July 24, 2020, our family got devastating news.  My brother Steve was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma in his lung that had metastasized to his brain and adrenal glands.  He went to the hospital because he was having extreme weakness in his left hand and arm, which he thought was due to a pinched nerve.  He was trying to work on his beloved pinball machines but was unable to hold a screwdriver.
This news has absolutely shattered our small family. Steve has one younger brother Matt and an older sister (me Loretta) Both of my parents are devastated. My family was already struggling to cope with my 85 year old father’s health issues due to heart failure    Steve is only 55 years old and has never had any health issues. He was not working due to Covid 19.  His wife Lynn was also not working due to past health issues.  Steve and Lynn have one son, my wonderful nephew Frank who is 25.
On July 31, 2020 Steve underwent surgery to remove the brain tumor. The surgery was successful, but a pet scan done on October 9, 2020 showed that the cancer was spreading and it was now in several areas of his bones.  The summer and fall were filled with doctor and hospital visits, painful tests, treatments and chemotherapy. There were many complications and setbacks.  All of these being more painful since his wife and son cannot be by his side due to Covid.
On November 30, 2020 Steve drove to a call to fix a pinball machine. (he had been cleared to drive for over a month) He was fine when he left home, fine when he left the client home, but he suffered a major stroke on the freeway and totaled his car.  He was brought by ambulance to the VA where they found a large blood clot in his neck.  Multiple treatments failed to break it up and he was transferred to the U of M where he underwent surgery to remove the clot.  After a week he returned to the VA where he has been ever since.  After the medical treatments he was moved to the spinal cord/stroke rehabilitation unit and is undergoing therapy to walk and do daily activities without the use of his left side.  He has been confined to a wheelchair.  He also has short term memory issues making things even more difficult for him.  As hard as this has been the VA has been an absolute blessing to my brother and his wife and son.  The care has been exceptional and they have gone above and beyond to help Lynn and Frank with updates and information as they cope with dealing with this while not being able to be with Steve during all of this.
We have now learned that coming home (we don’t know when) will most likely mean him coming home in a wheel chair.  Their house is not set up to accommodate this and will require many changes.
During all of this, my brother is very concerned about finances.  Of course we tell him just to focus on getting better, but he continues to worry.
I love my brother so much and while I cannot fight the fight for my brother, I can help by easing his worries about money so he can focus only on fighting the most epic battle of his life.  I want to raise enough funds to pay for any medical costs not covered, changes to his home to make any accommodations necessary for his wheelchair, and maybe even to replace a totaled car!  Upon his release, Steve will need full time care and I would like to raise enough money so is wife Lynn can stay home and care for him full-time rather than have to financially support them.  I know times are tough for everyone right now, so any donations are appreciated more than you know.  Whether you can donate or not, please share this GoFundMe to help me take care of my brother and his family.
