Zanzara

We are four young women living in Sweden but originally from Eritrea, a beautiful country in the horn of Africa. Our name is  Samrawit Tewelde 22, Tzega Tewelde 23, Mirjam Zekaryas 20 and Wintana Zekaryas 22.

Our fund is set up to help struggling single-mothers and their children who are in need of a helping hand in our motherland. Hardworking mothers who are put in difficult financial situations and are not able to provide the basic needs such as food, water and shelter for themselves and their families. Women who have no other choice but to stay strong for their children, these are the women we aim to help. Raising children without any help in these conditions is very challenging, therefore we simply want to give them  support and supply them with clothes, diapers, money and other basic necessities. 

This volounteer project is inspired by our last trip to the motherland in 2016 where we met a woman named Haimanot who shared her story about her struggles as a homeless mother raising 4 children on her own. The Tewelde and Zekaryas sisters were raised by single mothers as well, so this is something that is close to our hearts.
We are returning to Eritrea in the summer of 2018 and decided that we wanted our visit to be more than merely a pleasure trip. We aspire to do something more meaningful and positive for people in need.
