Cass's Zambian Clinical Placement

Family and friends! As most of you may know, I am currently enrolled in my final year of the McMaster Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree...3 years down, 1 to go! And as I approach my final semesters, I am so incredibly excited to say that one of them will be spent in Zambia, Africa!
A quick bit of background information- last September I began a 6 month-long application process, with the hopes of being accepted into the Global Health clinical placement through McMaster. After much stressful waiting as the various parts of my application was reviewed, I received my acceptance, with confirmation that I would be travelling to Zambia the upcoming year!
I will be completing a clinical placement, as a nursing student, in the Macha Mission Hospital, found in rural Zambia. I will be placed on a women's medical floor (with a big emphasis on infectious disease, and HIV-induced disease), and living with other Zambian nursing students in the hospital residence. The hospital is situated in the small community of Macha, about an hour's drive outside of the closest town of Choma (that means no wifi, ahhh!)
With only about 2.5 months until I leave, I have been busy with booking flights, applying for visas, arranging accomodations and transportation, purchasing medication, getting tons of needles (ouch), and trying to ensure I have all the various trip details sorted out. I am hoping to raise some funds to offset a few of the costs associated with this trip, and every contribution is so, so appreciated!
This is an experience I have hoped to pursue ever since I began studying nursing, and I am so shocked and excited that it's finally happening! I'm certain it will be so much more stretching and rewarding than I could have ever expected, and I am so excited to serve and to learn alongside my fellow nurses.
