Academy Kennels Irma Damage
Donation protected
On September 10, 2017 our area was hit by Hurricane Irma . I have a kennel that was build in 1973, it has been through several hurricans. Irma was different. I was caring for 60+ animals. Everything was going well then the power went out and the rains came in too hard and too much. The office flooded, trees were blown over, part of the lanai roof was ripped off and flipped on to the main roof on top of our power line and the kennel flooded. We have staff that stayed with the pets and made sure they were safe and out of harms way. We will be using the funds immediately to repair the roof, remove unsafe trees, fix the sidewalks that the trees pulled up and repair the walls and floors in the office and rooms in the front building ruined by the flood waters. We are still open at half capacity, with people calling us daily looking for a safe place for their animals because millions of people in Florida have lost power. I want to help them...but I need help to do that. I am a humble, hardworking, independant person, so it is hard for me to ask for help...but it is absolutely necessary. I try to help others....so by helping I can continue to help them. I work with some of our rescues in the area and will continue to do so. Any excess funds will then be passed on the those who also help others. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely and forever grateful,
