Drake’s Surgery
This is our Drake. He started limping a couple of weeks ago. Tuesday evening I took him to OSU Vet ER because he started not bearing
any weight on his front right paw. The
diagnosis is that he has a tumor on his
humerus and he needs to have his leg
amputated. We had them do extra x-rays to
see if it had spread and we have found out,
that is hasn’t.
The timing couldn’t be worse. Most vets (I’ve called several) are not doing surgeries at this time due to Covid-19. The surgery has to be
done at either MedVet or OSU. MedVet’s
quote was lower ($2,700-$3,700).
We are currently managing his pain at home, while we try to come up with the funds to
save his life. All of his bloodwork came back
normal. His kidneys and liver are in great
shape. The veterinarian assured us that he
would recover quickly and live the rest of his
life chasing squirrels which is one his favorite
pastimes.
We have no choice but to ask for help, he is
family and we would deeply regret if we
didn’t give it our all to give him a fighting
chance. With his pain being managed, he is
wagging his tail and running on 3 legs.
Anything will help. I’ve never done anything
like this, but he has a lot of fans and we know
how much he is loved and loves everyone.
