Yimmy Santana fue atropellada por un automóvil que se llevó una luz roja el domingo 3 de marzo de 2019 por la noche, entre las 5: 45 y las 6:00 pm. En el momento en que fue atropellado, Yimmy estaba cruzando la calle en la intersección de Palm Avenue y Pembroke Road en Miramar en camino hacia su trabajo en el Walmart local. El automóvil, un Honda blanco conducido por una mujer con cabello azul, según testigos, aceleró después de atropellar a Yimmy, lo que le provocó una conmoción cerebral inmediata, entre otras lesiones. Gracias a un buen samaritano que llamó al 911, Jimmy fue trasladado en ambulancia al Memorial Regional Hospital, donde está recibiendo tratamiento por varias lesiones, entre ellas: fractura de cráneo, huesos partidos en la rodilla izquierda y varias fracturas de hueso y moretones.
Yimmy ha estado viviendo en los EE. UU. Durante solo 10 meses, nativo de la República Dominicana, llegó a los Estados Unidos con la esperanza de trabajar duro y mejorar su vida. Él está aquí solo, sin ningún otro medio de apoyo que no sea su trabajo en Walmart, del cual no podrá reportarse durante al menos ocho semanas.

Yimmy Santana was hit by a car that ran a red light on Sunday, March 3, 2019, in the evening, between 5:45-and-6:00 pm. At the time he was struck by the vehicle, Yimmy was crossing the street on the intersection of Palm Avenue and Pembroke Road in Miramar on his way to work at the local Walmart. The car – a white Honda driven by a woman with blue hair, according to witnesses – sped off after running over Jimmy leaving him with an immediate concussion, among other injuries. Thanks to a good samaritan who called 911, Yimmy was taken by ambulance to Memorial Regional Hospital where he is being treated for several injuries including: fractured skull, broken bones at his left knee, and several bone fractures and bruises. He has just been cleared of a potential brain hemorrhage that threatened him with yet another expensive surgery.
Yimmy, 24, has been living in the U.S. for merely 10 months, a native of the Dominican Republic, he came to the states with hopes of working hard and bettering himself. He is here alone, with no other means of support other than his job at Walmart of which he will not be able to report to for at least eight weeks.
