Urgent Solutions to Maternal-Fetal Health Issues

Donation protected

Do you know that 24,000 babies in America die every year? Are you aware that 700 to 1200 mothers die in childbirth related conditions? Arline Geronimus, public health researcher, began studying American maternal and fetal mortality rates in the 1970's and, the data shows that these deaths have increased yearly since then.

In 2021, women should not enter the birthing process, demoralized because of the fear that they may not live to see their babies, or go home empty handed without their bundle of joy. Fathers should not have to choose whether to save mother or baby when catastrophe strikes. America is considered a developed nation with some of the most brilliant minds, and so the solutions to these needless and preventable deaths are within our reach.

The Campus of Care Global Healthcare Corporation needs your help to stop these deaths. My name is Dannah McKellar Ntaka, the founder of The Campus of Care Global Healthcare Corporation.  For 16 years, our public health research institute has served families in two major metropolitan areas: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. We are addressing the maternal-fetal health crisis by providing families with doulas and other specialized services through our Maternity Care Coalition.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided evidence that training more doulas and midwives can drastically reduce these mortality rates (https://www.who.int/reproductivehealth/companion-during-labour-childbirth/en/).

Our Maternity Care Coalition sends home care workers to assist families, and expectant or new mothers while they are managing work/household duties, navigating the healthcare system, placed on bedrest, or just to generally support them in the transition. We educate parents of every experience level about breastfeeding and expectations after birth. The 2022 goal of the maternity care coalition is to supply expectant mothers with wearable, digital devices to monitor blood pressure throughout their pregnancies. We also need to provide more women with equipment needed to count the kicks of their babies while in the womb.

Public health doctrine states that none of us are healthy until the most vulnerable among us are healthy, therefore the focus of The Campus of Care in on community health, as a whole. Our team administers CPR training to both healthcare professionals as well as lay people of the community, and we want to expand our training to cover more cities! Wouldn’t you want your friends and neighbors to know how to save your life in the case of a cardiac emergency?

Our programming also entails sponsoring and training entrepreneurs who are already working with the very populations we are working to save. Meet our entrepreneurs:

Ariel Julian, mother to a one-year-old and three-year old, is an aspiring midwife. Ariel earned a Bachelors' degree in Communications continued her studies and earned a Masters' Degree in Public Administration from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania. The Campus of Care has been providing support to her since 2020. Since joining our social entrepreneur training initiative over the past year, Ariel has trained to become a doula and completed her certification to teach CPR. Her mission to become a midwife is a step-by-step process, as she also has to support her family along the way. Her plan is to apply to an accelerated program to become a Registered Nurse (RN), in order to obtain a Masters in Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). We need Ariel working in her full capacity as a health practitioner to literally save lives, but the hard work to accomplish her dream requires a village and community for her family, which includes supporters like you.

We also have junior researchers such as Themba Ntaka, who is a French/Political Science major based in Philadelphia. Themba’s current project entails spending a year in the West African nation, Burkina Faso. During that time, he will collect data on the health and welfare of mothers in that region, which will be valuable to address maternal health in our own country by way of comparing methods and outcomes. Themba’s vision has our full support. Can we count on your support to help women globally?

Women make up a large part of the churches, and we have had the support of many churches in the Philadelphia area for two decades. We would like to highlight Bishop Harold Faust of the New Hope Covenant Fellowship Church in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, for his work Bishop Faust in creating The Center of Hope which will partner with The Campus of Care Global Healthcare Corporation to create more services to prevent infant death. Bishop Faust is known as The Destiny Builder by the businesswomen and men he mentors.

The ultimate vision of the Campus of Care is to become a smaller-scale medical school for the public, to create a healthier America, one community at a time. We have skilled and dedicated grant writers who have joined our team, however it takes over 400 hours to compose a competitive grant!  Let’s take care of our women, and let’s do it now! None of us are able to do this work alone.

We appreciate you taking the time to read and learn more about our health initiatives for women, babies, families, and our communities.
