Legacy of 25 Scripture Verses on Parliament Hill

My name is Lynette Bloedow. I am the owner of a small business called ChristianRoots Canada (www.christianrootscanada.org). This business grew out of a love for History in general, and Canadian History specifically.

Many years ago, my husband and I published a booklet, ‘The Biblical Legacy of Canada’s Parliament Buildings’. They are still available for sale on our website. That booklet was born out of some Parliament Hill Tours we hosted for a few years.

We had taken pictures of the inside of the Memorial Chamber.  On enlarging them on our computer, we realized that there were Scripture verses written in the stained glass windows and other places in the Memorial Chamber. These are not discussed in other resources, least of all in the Government of Canada's materials. 

We needed some fresh pictures for re-publication of a more child-friendly booklet. These were taken in November of 2018, just before the Centre Block closed for renovations for the next 10 to 15 years.

This time, we found a treasure trove of Scripture and Biblical images in those pictures which clearly point to our Christian heritage.

These have been left as a legacy for us. We have put 51 of these pictures in a new book, ‘The Legacy of 22 Scriptures on Parliament Hill’. 

This book is a book of contrasts. It contrasts the difference between what the Government of Canada’s website says and what is actually portrayed in the stained glass windows and other areas of the Memorial Chamber. 

The Biblical references and Christian content of the Peace Tower, apparently, were not deemed relevant, or were not adequately understood, by those responsible for producing the federal government's information on the Parliament Buildings.

This foundational, historical, information is not included among their website resources. Some of these words and images are difficult to see due to height, angles and lighting, but others are clearly visible to the naked eye. 

There are at least 22 Scripture verses and 51 images, with Biblical symbolism, and terminology throughout the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower. 

We believe that this book will inspire its readers when they see the images of Canada's historic Christian values. These values are being eroded today - values like honour, justice, diligence, sacrifice and freedom. 

This book will let readers know that their own values are not alien to Canada, but tied to our historic foundation , and will inspire hope, faith, and courage.

There is also a warning to Canadians, etched in the windows, about becoming apathetic towards our freedom. It comes as a quote which says, ‘Freedom is the sure possession of these alone who have the courage to defend it.’

We are preparing to go to print right now, but we need your help.

The Goal of this campaign is two-fold:

First,  we would like to raise $20,000 to print thousands of these books by March 31st 2020.

In the Spring, we have access to large audiences due to Christian conferences, homeschool conferences, prayer breakfasts, and other events.

We would like to make these books available to the largest possible audiences that are sympathetic to our cause.

We would also like to make them available to churches, Christian schools, and homeschool organizations.

A next project planned is to create a children's colouring book out of the images in order to expose our children to their rich Canadian Scripture heritage at their earliest ages.
