Hello everyone,

Some of you may know me because I am a doctor in Nasser Hospital, my name is Mohammed Abu Lheya, I am 26 years old and I graduated from medical school last year. Since 7.10.2023 I have been volunteering at Nasser Hospital.

Honestly from the beginning of the war I never thought I would ask for money or help from anyone, but after 4 months I changed my mind. I was convinced by some of you who follow me on Instagram and some of my colleagues…

I realize that many people see me helping patients and would like to help me in turn.

Sometimes people who follow me on Instagram have asked me why I did not want to leave Gaza and accept money to escape from here. After 4 months I tell you that I have not changed my mind about that, I do not want to leave Gaza, my life is here, my family is here and I will stay here until the very end for my patients who need medical care.

I consider the lives of my patients invaluable and I consider the injured as part of my family.

I have run into dangerous situations to offer relief to those in need even outside the hospital, yet I continue to fulfill my duty. Despite being surrounded and exposed to occupation snipers, I remain steadfast, committed to helping those in need.

It's hard to comfort those who have lost their families when even I don't know how mine is doing, but we give each other strength.

I have decided that I want to accept your help in money, without asking anything from anyone but just leaving you the link and explaining why I accept it now. I want to rebuild my life here, I want to help my family and rebuild our home after losing ours and our store.

I believe in my people of Gaza and our love for life.

I would like to be able to give my family a future right here in Gaza, especially for my father who has always done everything for us and allowed me to study outside, I would like to surprise them and say "look we don't have to flee we can stay here and rebuild our life here."

My hope and desire to rebuild everything is my favorite form of resistance, even fulfilling my duties as a doctor without being paid is my personal form of resistance.

Here we have a way of saying about the oppressors "they are not our teachers." They destroyed our hospitals, houses, mosques, they took newborn lives, young lives full of dreams and lives of elderly people who had already suffered the catastrophe years ago and now relived it. But we have to think about rebuilding everything. Life is also this, life is also suffering, life is also death, but life is not submission.

I am one of the many young people with values and dreams and I will not stop believing. I would like to specialize in plastic surgery and have a bright future like all of you. I love to travel and see the world, I would love to be able to complete my residency abroad like in Germany or Turkey one day. And if I will not give up my dreams and my work, I swear, it is also thanks to you and your words.
