GoFundMe and Quickbooks have teamed up to create the Small Business Initiative, a program under which any business that raises a minimum of $500 will get a matching $500 added to their account.

We at Young Ones are well aware that asking for donations right now, while so many people are struggling, may not be well received. Our business is not the only business that is unsure of its future right now. Our families are not the only ones struggling during these trying times. We are aware of that and just as we always have, Young Ones would like to help others who are in need.

We have often gladly helped local organizations with donations of money or gift certificates for numerous causes. Also, a few years ago, we started a program to help reduce the use of plastic bags by encouraging our customers to decline a bag and donating the cost of each refused bag to charities both local and nationwide. With so many people in need, now is not the time for us to stop giving to our community.

With this in mind, our GoFundMe is designed to help not only Young Ones but also Friend, Inc., which helps to feed the hungry in our local area, and a local restaurant that is also struggling right now. To do so, the first $500 that we raise will be donated to Friend, Inc.—but not in cash. Instead, we will donate 50 gift certificates that can be redeemed for a large pizza at Mamma's Delight Pizza & Restaurant, which is located across the street from Young Ones in Kutztown. Mamma's has graciously offered to reduce their price of a large pizza to $10 so that we can help as many needy families as possible with this donation.

While the first $500 donated to Young Ones will be passed on to help Friend, Inc. feed the hungry in our community, Young Ones also needs help to ensure its very survival in these unprecedented times. We have been closed to the public since March 16th. Our online operations have kept a few employees partially employed, as well as allowed us to pay our distributors so that we can still get inventory to sell. Unfortunately, it has not been enough to pay our normal operating expenses, such as rent, utilities, insurance, etc., which add up to about $6,000/month.  This shutdown has caused us to be almost 3 weeks late in paying rent and these other bills.  We are hoping to raise enough to cover the bills that were due in April, which is why we are looking for $6,000 and no more at this time.

We have spent the last 29 years providing our customers with music, movies, games, and more at a fair price. We have not only supported local organizations with donations, but also local bands through both selling their music and hosting live performances in the store. We have brought national acts to Kutztown to entertain fans, with artists such as  Front Bottoms, Simo, Frank Turner, Crobot, Black Crown Initiate, Fire In The Radio, Dead by Wednesday, Chuck Mosley, Hemming, Left Lane Cruiser, and more. Our space has been used for community events and fundraisers on various occasions. We are hoping to be able to keep doing what we have been doing for the last 29 years for another 29+ years to come.

Donate if you can. Spread the word to your friends. Please help to
keep the dream alive.

Let's keep Kutztown rockin'!
