Young IDEA Lab - a crosscultural theater exchange

WHO WE ARE

Young IDEA is an international network of young artists & theater educators. We want to collaborate with people worldwide to create diverse projects in art & education. We are not an independent association: as part of the International Drama Theatre and Education Association [IDEA], we follow the IDEA constitution. Like IDEA, we want to make cultural education possible for every child, regardless of their background. Learn more about IDEA at www.ideadrama.org

We are young.
We have a lot of questions.
We are international & worldwide.
We are artists, educators & scientists.
We want to promote transcultural exchange.
We are students, young professionals & lecturers.
We want to create a worldwide Young IDEA network.

After the worldwide health crisis, we want to meet again in a cross-cultural theatre exchange of young Theater professionals in Reykjavik, Iceland! The young IDEA Lab 2022 in Iceland will be the second in a series of cross-cultural exchanges between young professionals concentrating on learning from each other and artistically researching a topic.
Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and North America will all be represented with participants in the project!

WHAT WE WANT
In a time of war, refugee movements, crisis and constant internet presence and long-distance learning, the arts and cultural education are again neglected. So we want to know: How can we make theatre possible for all and reclaim our physical performing bodies?
How can this be possible in cultural education?
How can theatre teachers and educators help their pupils rediscover theatre and the arts offline?
How can we make theater for all online and offline?

We, the young IDEA network, consisting of young theatre and art practitioners and educators from all over the world, want to engage in artistic, pedagogical and scientific exchange. This exchange is the continuation of a series of worldwide meetings organized by young theatre professionals. Our aim is to generate material through artistic research on the impact of the crisis on theater education and discover solutions.

We will meet in Reykjavik in June 2022 before the IDEA International Congress "Theater for all- tall and small" https://ideaiceland.com/. In this ten-day meeting, 20 theater practitioners and educators will work together, have peer-to-peer workshops and engage in artistic research on the questions above. The results will be presented performatively during the conference and streamed online for a worldwide audience.

We´re planning to repeat this event every 2-4 years in different places on the world, to help new young professionals connect through art education and help the voices of children and families worldwide be heard.

WHAT DO WE NEED
We are living in a digitized world. It´s easy to stay in contact with people from all over the world and talk about making plans. But now it´s time for action. Our project is completely based on voluntary work, so we depend on financial support. We would like to give each participant the opportunity to take part in this program. Regardless of homeland, background or income. Therefore, we need donations to cover the following costs:
17.000 € for Travel costs to and from Reykjavik from the countries listed above
3.000 € for accommodations in Reykjavik, food and material

If the donations exceed our goal (which would be amazing!) the funds will be used in the research and publication of the Handbook of the project.
