You Are the One for Me:Nita Initiative

"The world is round & the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning"~Ivy Baker Priest

As the Wilsons enter the final phase, their new beginnings, we need to be mindful her work, Nita's work, is at a critical point, literally for her life.

While the many of us observing on the peripheral & some intimately, it will be truly at the bottom line, it is her work. She will not be alone. From her loving husband, her spiritual brothers & sisters, her extended family & yes even total strangers will serve as anchors for support along this way.

Because of all you've done in 30 days has allowed for this to come to fruition. You have inder saw a need & threw your tender compassions upon them emotionally, spiritually & yes, monetary with the end result being that Nita & Don was able to in Phase one go to Portland for Nita's cancer treatment (see below).

Then just recently in Phase 2, the crucial trip to USC Keck Medical Center in Los Angeles for consideration to be place on the national liver transplant list.

You did this! Way to go!

It is not over by a long shot, but a large chunk has now given them a huge fighting chance. Imagine spending half your life not in full form & now that possibility can happen! To what degree would you go?

If accepted at Keck's after the Wilsons have a battery of tests thank thankfully can be done locally, Keck's Medical team will make the final determination. They will not have any decision more then likely until the beginning of the new year at the earliest.

While looking to favorable outcomes from these tests, the Wilsons will have to look down the road by preparing to have an extended stay in Los Angeles as they would have to remain within a 60 minute radius of the hospital for a year including surgery, recuperation, et al. There will be additional expenses. Their fixed income barely manageable in Oregon cannot stretch to accomodate a pricier Los Angeles.

To that view, we will & you can if you choose to contribute, do what we can to offset or augement that extended stay.

There will continual updates as we're informed.

I will keep the backstory up for those who may be reading this for the first time. Please do not hesitate to pass the link foward!

PHASE 1: From Nita's OSHU hospital stay for the Cancer treatment

It is now Tueday 11-19

Nita with her surgical team of warrior women early Tues 11-19-13 afternoon before off to surgery. Her spirits are up.

At 2:30-ish she's off to do battle!

Monday afternoon 11-18 after admittance. She's totally focused prepping to go into her Transarterial Chemobolization (TACE) treatment at OHSU today.

I can only imagine the feelings this valiant & courageous woman possessed starting this! The Wilsons had the opportunity to spend some time with one of her daughters & cutie pie granddaughter on Sunday before checking in.

There was a second procedure Tuesday 11-20. Nita did so well they released her on Wed with the understanding to be nearby for another couple of days nearby as a precautionary measure. Happily, but wearily, they made the long trip home on Thursday to recuperate for Phase 2.

Thank you to OHSU " Team Nita" her surgical team and everyone involved for caring for our Nita this week.

Caricature done by Arrin Vanguard©13 of Australia, a friend on Nita & Don.

The "prequel". Nita's backstory...How this initiative came about.

Are you the one?

This is the narrative on how & why we are some of the ones for Nita:

Let me introduce myself. My name is Jacquelyn Hughes Mooney. I'm an artist living in New Orleans Louisiana and I've spearheaded the "You Are the One for Me" Initiative.

The creation of this site is on behalf of the loveliest couple I am privilege to have acquaintance with.

The word "Initiative" is defined as: "the power or opportunity to act or to take charge before others do. The power or ability to begin or to follow through energetically with a plan task; enterprise and determination". Well I'm fiercely determined, acting & hoping you will too take the initiative.

This is Mrs. Wannetta Wilson, affectionally as Nita, a few days ago before leaving for onr of most powerful, life changing moments in any one lives.

Nita at age 67 is the lady love of 25 years, the wifr of Don Wilson, age 71. When I set up this site almost 3 wreks ago, was because the Wilsons needed financial assistance to travel to two different locations for medical treatment.

One was to OHSU in Portland for a TACE treatment. TACE stands for Transarteriat Chemombolization, a minimal invasive image guidance treatment for liver cancer. That mission is accomplished as of Nov 18-20, 2014. Thank you!

Happily, the Wilsons had an opportunity to spend time there cutie patootie granddaughter Lucy before checking in:

Meet Lucy & mom!

The second phase we're asking assistance for is to get them from Oregon to Los Angeles for a medical evaluation at USC's Keck Medical Center on Dec 8, 2013 to be considered for a transfusion-free liver transplant.

We are now at 75.8% of goal of modest but neccesary funds. Thank you for the kind & generous contributions thus far! We still have 25.2% of goal to reach so we cannot stop now!

As with many "seasoned" adults, their resources are very limited and strained to manage their basic necessities. This is why I encourage you to assist in easing that strain.

This is NITA's back story:

Ms. Wilson unfortunately, contracted hepatitis B & C in the mid 1970s from tainted blood after hemorrhaging during her fourth pregnancy, that was triggered in part from the stress related to a lost marriage & rearing small children. The tragic results was her developing advanced cirrhosis of the liver. Adding insult to injury, just in the last month she was hit with still another devastating blow with the diagnosis of cancer of the liver.

To their great relief, around mid October, 2013, the Wilson's received hopeful good news. USC's Keck Medical Center agreed to see her for an evaluation to be put on the transplant list but the Wilsons are in Oregon & Keck Medical Center is in Los Angeles. Don, has been trying to work at age 71 in addition to caring for his ailing wife (which is a feat in itself), to accomplish not too far out of the reach goal of getting his wife to the "City of Angels" for the evaluation & the hope of a liver transplant. What a wonderful man!

He, with the deepest affection for his wife, refers to her as "the most loving and kind person he has ever known" and does not know how he will function if he lost her.

It would truly be a travesty not to give her, as well as Don, an opportunity to have more of a life together. There are many I know who can see and appreciate their humanity along with those of us who see them as our brother & sister.

I came into the picture learning of their circumstances as we have mutual friends & my first thought was "how can I help"? As with the Wilson's strained resources, I too am on a fixed income as are many. It struck a chord deeply in me as I lost my best friend who badly needed a transplant over a decade ago & my mother who is now in hospice so I clearly have fellow feeling for them in this challenge.

While mother's situation is not reversible, Nita has a chance, a big chance, and we just have to get her to Los Angeles no later then December 7th for that December 8, 2013 medical evaluation with the Keck team.

Now is this goal, this vision impossible? No! Insurmountable? Absolutely not! The evidence has been demostrated by the hearts of many. A modest contribution can make a difference. Even if one cannot share in the joy of helping financially, one can indeed take a few minutes to share her story via any social media or contacts asking them to pass it forward.

The money requested is to share in covering many of their expenses while in Portland about 3-4 days . (Update: Accomplished as of November 2013)!

And now L. A. & USC Keck Medical Center. (UPDATE: Accomplished as of December,2013)!

These funds will include but not limited to transportation, lodging, food, incidentals & other unforseen expenses. Now they will be, prayerfully, are L. A. bound with help.

That $2500 is closer to realization. (UPDATE: Online donations came in at 103.8%. Offline donations took it over the top)! Deepest gratitude to all the kind hearts!

Just think about it...at the price of a combo meal at a fast food restaurant time 250 compassionate souls we can allow Don and Nita, his wife, for years to come a chance to enjoy life that she has not seen in decades!

As part of this fundraiser, I will be offering from a limited edition art from the Hard Headed Woman series©13 entitled "Deux Pour Une ( Two for One)" for Don & Nita for their participation. (See Rewards levels below). Other contributors share a mini commerative art. Since no two are alike they will only be samples.

However, I will have to limit the amount of art shown in the rewards level as each will be personally handcrafted by me and it takes time to create.

Creation & anticipated delivery to donors won't occur until after January,2014 for the Rewards donors.

**********UPDATES: Rewards as of December 12th, 2013 are now closed.**************

Now is the time for this modest & humble couple to see, feel receive some of the kindness & caring from friend & stranger alike they've given through their lifetime. I can guarantee you that it will not be in vain. This has been difficult for them to have their need in a public way, but I know the hearts of many will show them that this will not be in vain. It will be, as one of her nurses put it "a travesty to let this beautiful soul not have a chance to continue "in love & fine works". Please let Don have the joy of his heart remain with him.
