We are STAND NY, a BIPOC youth organization representing 11 different high schools across New York City and Long Island. Being students ourselves, we realize the difficulty of obtaining school supplies, especially for those living in low income areas.
COVID 19 has drastically impacted income in many communities around the city and has put many families of students in a tough position. According to the Department of Education, 72.8% of students in New York City are economically disadvantaged.
All the money raised through this Go Fund Me will go towards helping the students and teachers affected by the pandemic who may not be able to afford the supplies they need to excel in a classroom or remote setting. We are going to purchase our school supplies in bulk to reduce costs and contact various schools in our areas in order to distribute ‘care packages’ to students in the area. Our goal is to make this transition into the drastically different new school year as smooth as possible, and want to be done by early September. Every penny counts!
