Dear friends of Wendy and Stephanie Johnson.  I am writing on their behalf as a way to let all of you know what has transpired in the Johnson family and ask for your prayers and support.  Over the Thanksgiving holiday Wendy was admitted to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma where she underwent diagnostic testing for symptoms she had been experiencing for some time.  She has been diagnosed with Stage IIIC Colorectal Cancer.  Doctors determined that the tumor is inoperable at this point due to its size and invasive nature.  However, Wendy is undergoing both radiation and chemotherapy to shrink the tumor in hopes of a successful operation at a later date.

As you can imagine, Wendy’s diagnosis was a huge blow to the family.   Then, just before Christmas, Scott was admitted to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath, swelling in his legs and unusual tiredness.  He had attributed all his symptoms to stress and aging.  While in the ER he had two heart episodes, and it was discovered he most likely had had a heart attack at some point fairly recently.  According to the cardiologist his heart had been severely damaged and was only at about 10% capacity due to blockages in his arteries that had been accumulating over decades.

He was admitted to the Intensive Cardiac Care Unity at St. Joseph Medical Center and put on a heart pump, as well as having four stents put in.  The plan was that the pump would allow the damaged heart tissue to heal and bring the heart to 40% capacity making him a candidate for a permanent device.  After all the procedures, his heart only regained 14% of its function, and three cardiologists determined there was nothing else they could do.

It is with great sadness that I have to let you all know Scott Johnson passed away on Thursday, January 4th.   I cannot imagine what Wendy and Stephanie are going through.  Devastated and overwhelmed most likely do not begin to adequately express what they are experiencing.   They have only begun to process all this and could really use the support of friends during this time.  I wanted get the word out and will be corresponding with Wendy and Stephanie for specific needs and updates on Wendy’s progress.
