From Emilio:

Mom’s dream, one day, is riding her recumbent tricycle!

My Mom, Doris Hernandez-Morales, had a stroke, 13 years ago.  She was 5 months pregnant with me, while she had her stroke.  She had a really bad headache, until hours later.  Mom had her stroke on January 18, 2002.  When she went to the hospital, they did 2 surgeries.  Finally, the blood vessel stopped leaking in her brain.  I, Emilio, was born on April 2002.  I am a miracle, as well as my Mom.  She figured it out how to use her left side only, for everything.  But she couldn’t talk or walk, at all.  She had and still has paralysis, on her right side.   Mom has a leg brace and a hand brace, to walk a little bit, at home.  But at night and travel distances, she uses her wheelchair.  I have to say that Mom did have wonderful Doctors, Speech and Physical Therapists, who tried everything.  Then 5 years after she had her stroke, she woke up one morning on a weekend and said to my dad, “Hi Baby.”  She started crying with happiness…It was an Angel!  The words were only fragments, but it became sentences, little by little.  She is about 90% in English and 60% in Spanish.  She was completely fluent, before she had her stroke.  Mom is extremely grateful and so amazing, in so many ways!

A year ago, she started looking at tricycles.  She tried to ride it, and she fell down.  It was a tricycle, but with a regular seat.  Then she started looking at recumbent tricycles.  They are tricycles for adults with an actual chair and peddles that are more forward.  It could be lower recumbent tricycles or middle ones, as well.  She started looking at it and riding in it with many styles and locations.  She loved it!!!  When she was a student, she loved using her bicycle, for all things.  Now, she would love to ride with her boys (Noah, 5 year old, a gift from God & Me, 13 year old, a Miracle)  and my dad (Martin) with their bicycles and her recumbent tricycle.  When she started looking at it, she said, “I would love riding it often, with my kids.  One day!”

The only thing is the prices.  They are from $1,200 to $11,000.    Since she has paralysis on her right side, the recumbent tricycle would have to be changed in so many ways (petal, steering, gears, etc).  This would help her to reuse some areas that she hasn’t used for so many years.  The recumbent tricycle that she is looking at is $3,650.  Ouch!!!!  So my Mom decided to stop, searching because we don’t have that kind of money.  She is disabled and she loves volunteering (Stroke Survivor Support Group, A Touch of Understanding, Traumatic and Acquired Brain Injury Support and the County of Sacramento Disability Advisory Commission Housing Subcommittee).  And the only breadwinner is my Dad.  Unfortunately, we don’t have that kind of money.

So I am asking, for your help!  Please donate GoFundMe, for my Mom, in order to reach her goal!  If I am able to raise the money, she will buy her recumbent tricycle and ride it regularly with her boys and with her husband.  As well, she has made a promise to ride her recumbent tricycle on a 5k marathon.  This is a thank you, to all of you for your donation!

Thank you, for listening.

I appreciate it,
Emilio
