Yes We Can Delivery Van!

Just a few days before Christmas, both of our cars were stolen from our driveway. It seemed like a bad practical joke being played on us. Our Toyota Prius was taken early in the morning, and they came back to steal our Honda Element in the evening... while we were still awake! It was shocking, sad, scary and frustrating all at once.
One week after the theft, the police have recovered our vehicles. And while that’s good news, neither of the cars are drivable... the Element is beat up so badly that insurance is considering it a total loss. We’re not sure if and when the Prius will be drivable. There are $2000 in deductibles we have to pay, plus the replacement of my $350 prescription pair of glasses, and a $200 key fob.
Beyond our daily personal use, we also relied on both vehicles to run our family food business - to pick up ingredients, to drive to markets, and to deliver products to our loyal customers. While we scrambled to make things work this past week - our busiest time of year - we remained grateful through it all. We’ve been borrowing cars and leaning on generous family and friends.
It's still hard to believe this happened to us. We are honest, loving, hardworking people. As part of our social mission, we hire formerly incarcerated folks at fair wages to give them a chance at an honest living and to discourage illegal activity. Even though this was a huge set back, we know it's an opportunity to love more.
We give thanks that our family is safe. Throughout this ordeal, I keep proclaiming, “You can steal our cars, but NOBODY CAN STEAL MY JOY!” Our faith is being tested, but we have not given in to despair or dismay. Instead, we are prepared to step out in greater love and service.
We’re taking this challenge as an opportunity to expand and grow. Now that our Element is gone, we need a dedicated refrigerated delivery van. We’re raising funds to pay the deductibles on the insurance ($2000) and to purchase and insure a used refrigerated delivery van for our business ($7400).
We appreciate everyone who has reached out in love and support. We are incredibly grateful for your generosity. We continue to believe and affirm that there is good in the world. Our mission is to help people heal, and the world needs this healing now more than ever.
