Help us fight ovarian cancer!

Hi, my name is Gwen, and I'm writing this together with my sister, Betsivette, on behalf of our mother, Betsy, who is battling ovarian cancer since May 2020. Our mom is a devoted, loving grandmother of three who would love to see them grow older and be part of all their milestones, as she was a part of ours. It has not been an easy road, our father passed away that same year in August of 2020, after living with Parkinson's disease for more than 10 years, and of whom my mom was primary caretaker. In the midst of COVID-19, we had to say goodbye to our dad and deal with our mom's diagnosis, thankfully finding great care here in Orlando, FL., where in the middle of all the chaos, her doctor operated and treated our mom.

After initial treatment, she was in remission for a year and a half. Early last year, after the cancer came back, she has gone through two new chemotherapy regimes but the last one has not achieved much improvement and side effects have only worsened. Betsivette, through research, found a place in Houston called The Burzynski clinic. (UPDATE - Sept 2023) With the help of initial donations we have been able to have a consult with Dr Burzynski who explained how Antineoplastons basically target 400+ genes to help regulate our bodies. This treatment has not been approved by the FDA and is not covered by medical insurance but approved by a state law under "Right to Try," when other treatments have failed to cure. Together with this, depending on genetic testing, additional medications to target other genes might be added to therapy, which might be FDA approved and possibly covered by insurance. Per Dr Burzynski all patients treated for the time suggested have had a positive response. The treatment cost is $17,000 per month for 4 months, depending on gene testing it might be up to 6 months. This covers medication, lab-work and close follow-up by the medical team. Thankfully, she would only need to stay in Houston for a week and a half to get started.

We are hopeful to raise some of the money to get started, and hopefully find a cure.
