Do you help the children and families of the Fundación Caminos in their fight against the Corona virus?
Colombia is also under the spell of the Corona virus. As a result, the foundation has had to close its doors with pain in the heart since 16 March until the Corona virus is under control.
In Medellín, nearly 40 percent of people work informally. In most cases this means that people earn less than the minimum wages (less than € 200 per month). Often whole families have to survive on this. People from the informal sector often have no buffer. They live day to day, because their salary does not allow for any buffer build-up.
With the lockdown from March 20 to May 11 (and possibly even longer) these people are hit extra hard.
- Many children and families are malnourished and have a lower resistance. This makes them more susceptible to the Corona virus.
- Families working in the informal sector have no social safety net from the government. Not working for one day means no money and no money means no food on the table.
- Many families, many live in small unsafe houses made of wood, plastic or corrugated iron.
- Many lose their jobs, such as the single mother cleaning at private homes or the father selling food and drink to passers-by on the street.
The foundation would like to give these families a little support. We want to do this by giving food packages to all our children. 400 food packages at € 10 each. Not only to ensure greater food safety, but also so that these families know that we will not forget them.
