Help YCANI fight for climate action

Youth Climate Association Northern Ireland is a youth-led organisation dedicated to fighting for climate action in Northern Ireland. We have several local groups; Belfast, Omagh, Derry, Newry, Enniskillen and Portrush. We are well known for our school strikes and our organised peaceful physical actions. YCANI have five demands which we hope to achieve through a variety of tactics such as protesting, lobbying, campaigning etc - you can read these on our website, ycani.org. COVID-19 has presented a huge challenge to us and activist groups around the world. A lot of groups had previously relied on taking to the streets in large numbers to demand action - like the Global Climate Strike in September of last year, with the Belfast strike, organised by us, seeing 7000 people hit the streets to demand change. But now, in our new reality, we need to think of new inventive and creative ways to achieve our goals. YCANI has already been working on this - with our #GreenRecoveryNI campaign launched during lockdown utilizing digital tools to create an accessible campaign for anybody to participate in from their own home. #GreenRecoveryNI saw the support of several NI environmental organisations and local politicians. As part of the campaign, we also engaged in virtual conversations with local policy-makers. However, we have yet to see the change we need to protect our planet and it’s people from the Northern Irish Assembly. This is where you come in. To run as an organisation we rely on donations from the public. This money goes towards general running costs and to other areas like campaigns. We are currently in the midst of planning our next campaign. We want it to be our biggest project to date and we’ve very excited to show it to everyone very soon. But to allow it to reach its potential and to have the maximum effect, we need to raise funds. This money will be spent on promoting the campaign, organising events, and more.
