Y.C. Hong Documentary

$7,405 of $10,000 goal

Y.C. Hong Trailer
I am raising money to fund a documentary on Chinese American pioneer Y.C. Hong.  After graduating from USC in 1924, he became  one of the first Chinese lawyers in the country and the first Chinese immigration attorney in California.  Despite humble beginnings and being only four foot six, Y.C. became a national civil rights leader and devoted his life to fighting racist  immigration laws like the Chinese Exclusion Act.

The money will go to pay for travel, research, camera equipment, and editing.

I have started the project and plan to have it completed in six months.

Your support reinforces my belief that these little known stories of Asian American pioneers need to be told and shared. That future generations won't take U.S. citizenship for granted and understand the history of Chinese immigration to America.

For every donation of $50 or more will get your name on the closing credits.

We are now one month into the Y.C. Hong documentary campaign and we are almost three quarters of our way to reaching our goal! Thank you again for supporting this project. Special shout out to Buck Gee and Gordon Quan for your generous donations. It can feel lonely at times when you aren't sure if others can see or care about your vision, but the response to this campaign has reaffirmed my faith that others do realize the importance of having our Asian American stories told the public.

We are just over three weeks into the YC Hong documentary campaign and we are now a third of a way to our goal. Special shout out to Wai Ling and Steve Eng and Karen Wong and her husband Scott Lee for making sizable donations to this project. The subject of immigration continues to dominate the news. Which gives even more reason as to why we should remember Asian American pioneers like immigration attorney Y.C. Hong, who fought for so many of us.

Great news! We have now passed the $1000 mark in the campaign. As some of you know the subject of a previous documentary, Dorothy Toy, passed away this week. I hope it reminds us how important it is to keep these stories of Asian American pioneers alive through film.
