Yamah Tulensru - Leukemia Fund

Donation protected
Everyone, meet Yamah! Yamah is one of the toughest, smartest, and most loving 3-year olds around. After two weeks of inconclusive testing in Kosrae, a small, remote island in the North Pacific with a population just over 5,000, medical staff urged Yamah’s parents, Ason and Yaiko, to seek medical attention in the US.

Although Yamah wasn’t feeling well, he was so excited to take his first airplane ride with his mom and new baby sister to Hawaii. Upon arrival to Honolulu, Yamah was checked into Kapiolani Hospital where he underwent additional testing. On January 14th, 2018, a month before his 4th birthday, Yamah was diagnosed with Leukemia.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

As you can imagine, living and working in a developing country poses many financial burdens, especially while seeking out medical treatment in the United States. Yamah’s father, Ason, who served in the US Marine Corps, is the sole provider for their family of five, and works as Science teacher at the local high school in Kosrae.

With mounting medical and travel expenses ahead, Ason and Yamah’s brother, Tafahtu, need to join the rest of the family in Hawaii while Yamah undergoes chemotherapy treatments. Yamah’s family asks for your thoughts, prayers, and any monetary donations you can spare to help with medical bills, living expenses, and relocation costs.

WHY I STARTED THIS PAGE?

My name is Derek Dolence. As a WorldTeach volunteer placed in Kosrae, Federated States of Micronesia, for the 2016-2017 school year, I had the good fortune to be hosted by the warm and loving Tulensru family. They brought me into their home with open arms and treated me as if I was one of their own.

Despite the language and cultural barriers we faced on a daily basis, we found that love, laughter, and respect were universal. Over the last year and a half, I have grown to love this family as if they were my very own. I am asking my friends and family to share this story and show your support for Yamah and his family during Yamah’s fight.

Kulo malulap! Thank you!
