A Home for Jannat ❤

Hi All,

I hope you're well. Thanks so much for stopping by to read this! I'm a single mom and my daughter Jannat is diagnosed with severe right thoracic adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Jannat was admitted to Shriners hospital on Sept 29th, 2019 and underwent a  staged (3 surgery) procedure. Surgical intervention included a post lateral thoracotomy, anterior spine release and rib resection with halo application on September 30th. Jannat remained in halo and traction for the next 6 weeks followed by a posterior  spinal fusion surgery at Shriners hospital in Chicago on November 5th, 2019. That's the last of three surgeries since September. She's healing and it's going to be a long road to complete recovery.

We're very grateful and can't believe it's actually done as it's something we've been praying for and dreaming about for years!

She will be adhering to strict restrictions and healing for a year. She's currently unable to get out of bed on her own and bend or twist. It's considerably harder on her as for 6 weeks she was in halo and traction and had a postlateral thoracotomy so she's got a lot to heal from indeed.

We were living in the hospital while she was in traction and these surgeries were necessary indeed but she's feeling the impact of it all physically. We're trying our best to tackle the pain with medication but it's a battle. No sleep and no getting comfortable the major adversaries. It's her senior year of highschool and she's missing out on that, so the fact that she's not able to graduate alongside her peers is also really tough on her. She's got a perfect 4.0 GPA and missing school has been very difficult on top of everything else she's handling.

As you can imagine, this has been very expensive too! For instance, all my savings have been spent on traveling to Chicago alone for these procedures (over $7000) and on food and necessities. We lived in the hospitals' inpatient ward from September 29th until November 15th.

Unfortunately, during our stay at the hospital while my daughter was in halo and traction and in the ICU due to complications, our tenant decided he no longer wanted to stay at our apartment and left. Sadly as a result, we lost our home and all of our belongings. We now have no place to live. The hospital has provided us with temprorary housing  for 6 weeks. We hope and pray that by some miracle we'll be in a home of our own for Christmas. It's also a struggle to just manage expenses for food and medication.

Our immediate needs are
1. Home/shelter
2. Medication
3. Food
4. Warm clothes/coats and jackets as it's winter here in Chicago

I've been a solo provider my whole life and it pains me to be in this situation which I wouldn't wish upon any parent. It would be wonderful if we had some help just to get through this very difficult time while my daughter heals. Imagine having undergone such major procedures and then finding out you're homeless? It's soul shattering. We have applied for insurance but been denied and we're very much praying for a miracle right now.

Thank you so much for your time and your compassion. Have a wonderful day!
