Devorah's Life Saving Treatment

Hi, my name is Devorah Markus and i’m from Brooklyn NY. I am 23 years old and currently residing at a sober living facility in California called Transcend Recovery Community. Unfortunately, like many addicts, I had a rough time dealing with learning disabilities, depression, and anxiety throughout my life, as well as trauma that resulted in crippling Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Consequently, I started doing drugs when I was 13 years old. For a while, getting high was the only way I felt comfortable with myself. But, that comfort was short-lived because the drugs soon made me hate myself so much that I wanted to die. I could not give up the drugs on my own despite trying and I felt trapped in a suicidal prison. The hardest part about seeking treatment was asking for help. I came here because I fell to my knees I didn't care if i lived or died.

By the grace of G-d, I was able to ask for help and was sent to the sober living facility that I am presently at. For the first time since I was 13 years old I have been sober for 37 consecutive days (at the time of the posting). This house provides a safe place to live and staff who monitor me to make sure I stay active, keep a regular schedule, attend AA meetings, and maintain a job. The women who live here provide so much emotional support and empathy that I am not to hard on myself and do not fall into negative thinking that leads to a relapse. Research has proven that living in a sober living facility for 6 months to 1 year dramatically increases a person’s chance of maintaining long-term and even life-long sobriety. However, despite Trump declaring the opioid crisis a national state of emergency, insurance does not cover the cost of sober living. My goal is to raise the amount of money I would need to support me in living in a sober living structured environment for at least 6 months.

I feel ashamed to have to ask for help for this, however, I need the treatment that is being offered to me here because it will literally save my life. I am tired of the life that I used to live and feel that I have come a long way since I have been here. Please open your hearts and help me in any way that you can.
