Hi, my name is Nathaniel Baez. Im 26 years old and have been transitioning for about 7 years now.
Prior to coming out as transgender (FTM) I never felt right in my body. I struggled to fit in with the girls around me and i tried my hardest to ignore the body changes that come with puberty. I could never express how i felt or what i thought with my mother because i grew up in an abusive, strict Christian household. This lack of support forced me to grow up homeless in the NYC shelter system. Ive transitioned this far completely on my own. As a child i used to imagine what it would be like to not have to worry about breast tissue developing and i even considered self harm to prevent my chest from growing anymore.
After coming out I became very involved in the community, trying to share my life experiences with lgbt youth so that they have the proper resources to use when they come out. Ive walked with GLSEN, been on pride magazine and you can find my story on battling mental health while being trans online in "Lennys letter"
The one thing i haven't been able to achieve to feel completely myself is top surgery (Masectomy), or the removal of unwanted breast tissue. I have tried to seek out top surgery 3 times in the past but because of my previously unsteady living conditions and issues with insurance i have not been able to get it. Im becoming discouraged and increasingly unhappy. Im asking for as little or as much help as i can to reach my goal and hopefully be able to get the surgery i desperately need. Having top surgery will change my life. Ill be able to do things other men can do without being worried for my safety or about being ridiculed.
In a consultation I was suggested for key hole surgery which is less invasive and will leave less scarring. Im also looking to have my surgery done in Pittsburgh. Any donations will go directly towards surgery, recovery costs, food and medicine as i wont be able to go back to work until im recovered.
