As some are aware others are not, failure to spay or neuter your pets lead to an over population of unwanted animals. It overtaxes an already overburdened system. Sun Valley Animal Shelter is a 501(c) 3 non-profit, no-kill organization. We receive NO government funding and rely solely on public donations to support homeless animals. Our facility can comfortably hold 90 dogs and 70 cats. We are currently housing over 100 cats and kittens. Our resources are more than maxed out.
On the morning of Friday June 26th, our medical staff came in around 4:30 a.m. and discovered an alarming situation. A person abandoned 6 mother cats (one pregnant) and 19 kittens. They were left in a 6’x6’ gated area by the front door. The mother cats and their kittens were found in Rubbermaid tubs, rabbit cages and left out loose in the desert. It appears that some may be in medical need and are possibly sick. At this point we are gathering our volunteers and staff because we are in desperate need of financial help as well medical supplies.
We have been in contact with other no kill shelters all morning, unfortunately during the peak of kitten season other shelters have reached their capacities. As a no-kill shelter we are hoping to protect their lives and not somewhere that they would be euthanized. Sun Valley Animal Shelter is in emergency need of mostly medical supplies for these kittens. Our team has decided $5,000 total is our goal entirely based on medical expense for all of the cats/kittens to nurse them back to health and make them adoptable.
