My sister Ally began the journey of a lifetime back in 2014. She fully embraced her calling by becoming a foster mom and in 2015 took in Denny and Izaya. Initially, as a foster care mom and eventually a forever mom adopting them into the family. Then in 2017, the youngest of the siblings came to live with her at 5 weeks old and continues to be a part of the family and will be officially adopted in 2018.
These children are beautifully vibrant beings who make life brighter. With that, these children endured significant trauma in their early years. Ally has dedicated herself to diving deep into learning about trauma, the effects, and how to best treat it. She is fully committed to giving these children a safe and stable life and love. The children receive highly thoughtful and well researched guidance from Ally. Their lifestyle includes healthy foods, sensory integration “diets”, home schooling, therapy appointments (psychotherapy, occupational therapy, cranial sacral therapy, chiropractic), creative expressions through arts and crafts, guitar lessons, horse therapy, the YMCA, and occasional trips to the U of M medical center.
The children live with PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a sometimes misunderstood sort of sickness, but like other diseases, requires a high level of care and dedication. Denny also has Reactive Attachment Disorder, a more severe diagnosis that affects her ability to be emotionally stable and often drives her to push away healthy relationships due to a harmful past. The kids need constant supervision and struggle with environments that may be normal for other kids, they need a high level of structure and predictability, even in minor details of life such as the specific timing of putting on pajamas or even clean new pajamas, if altered, it can cause a melt down.
As a result of the high needs, Ally is not able to work outside of the home. She does receive some adoption assistance, that she is very grateful for, but the funds are fairly minimal. A lot of the specialized care Ally provides for the kids such as a nutritious diet, guitar lessons, cranial sacral, etc are not “covered” services and she chooses to prioritize these options for the kids in determination in helping the kids not only find ways to live and thrive, but to heal these deep wounds. A next step in their healing journey is to have a home on their own. Our parents have graciously provided a home for the past 2 years, now what is best for the family is for Ally and the kids to move into their own space. This will create more predictability and a more stabilized environment, the house could be fully set to meet their needs. Any contributions would help Ally and the kids (also known as the Wolf Pack) continue to engage in the meaningful methods of healing into the future.
