Remembering Tara Brown

Asia Owens is organizing this fundraiser for the Remembering Tara Brown Fund.

This might be the hardest thing I've ever had to write, but my best friend/sister needs a voice. On December 29th, 2020, she lost her life long partner, her soulmate, her wife of 20 years, but we collectively lost one of the most beautiful and giving spirits I've ever known.

Tara Brown at 47 years old, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 uterine cancer and upon her passing left behind her wife, son, two dogs Trina and Belle, countless friends, family members and co-workers whose lives she positively impacted. Honestly, the progression of and her battle with cancer seemed to happen overnight. It was so unexpected and progressed so rapidly that it did not give her family a chance to fully prepare since she was misdiagnosed with fibroids in the initial stages, but turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer. I do not know if one can ever fully prepare for death, but I know she left us way too soon.

Tara’s wife lost her job amid the pandemic and stayed unemployed to care for Tara around the clock and cherish the remaining time that they had left together. Upon her passing, the family is trying to piece together a new life while wrapping up the one they once knew.

It was an honor and privilege to know Tara. She inspired everyone that she came into contact with. As an employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District, she helped countless people realize their hopes and dreams, succeed through her encouraging words and believed in them when they did not believe in themselves. Tara was also a role model for the children and other female workers throughout her time with the district.

Everyone that spoke to Tara to say their last goodbyes cried as they told her how much they love and appreciate her guidance and support. They thanked her for helping them advance and mature in life, for being so compassionate, empathetic and for being a shoulder to cry on. Many said that they are the person that they are today because of her. They talked about how her smile lit up the room and how you couldn’t help but feel joy when she was around. What a gift for Tara to hear how she had impacted so many lives straight from the person's mouth. If you didn't get a chance to share with Tara feel free to leave a comment, a moment or story below.

Many people have asked what can I do, how can I send a card, flowers or donations? Meeting in person can be a challenge with the current pandemic so this page was born. Thank you so much for your kind words, love, prayers and donations.

All gofundme proceeds will go to Tara's family to use in whatever way they need.
