Fund Colombian Students in 2016

Donation protected
Marisol's students at Andrés Escobar primary school in Belén de Umbría, Risaralda, Colombia, start school for the year today. There are 30 students from preschool to 5th grade in 2 classrooms with 2 teachers.

All of the students come from troubled families - some of them displaced by violent conflicts, others who have lost 1 or both parents. Many of them have learning disabilities.

The students also have trouble affording simple supplies like notebooks and pencils, or even their school lunches, which only cost about 60 cents a week. A few even have incomplete uniforms, coming to school without socks, proper shoes, or the required shirts and pants.

We're asking if anyone can pitch in and help so that they can get through the school year without having to worry about having everything they need. $40 can sponsor a student for an entire year - all of their lunches, a notebook, pencils, books, other supplies, a new backpack, and what they need to complete their uniforms.

The students don't know about this campaign and we hope to surprise them during the second week. They will write thank you letters to each donor. We're also hoping some of the donors would like to become penpals with the class to encourage them. They don't speak English but Marisol and her partner will translate all the letters.

Any extra donations above the $1200 needed for the 30 students will be used to buy more books and upgrade the classroom.
