World Robotics Championship

We are team URSA MAJOR (Latin name means “Greater Bear”) and we are from Grandview Heights Secondary School, SD 36 in Surrey, British Columbia.

Our team just started with very humble means, but we are achieving incredible milestones.

Our two Lead Coaches/ Mentors are Mr. Scott Smith (Tech Ed. Robotics) and Mr. Eric Banks (Tech Ed. Robotics).

Currently, Team URSA MAJOR consists of 35 members, across all grade levels, and our membership reflects the cultural diversity of our student population. One-third of our team members are female.

In our eyes, success is measured by the new skills we acquire during this project, the amount of fun we have as a group and the strength of our bonds when working as a team.

Our team first participated in the Canadian Pacific Regional Championship in Victoria in March 2023 and we managed to finish 2nd place with our alliance. Our team got 3 separate awards and we were invited to compete in the World Championship.

In our very first competition, we managed to exceed our wildest dreams, and we are very excited to represent our school, community and Canada in the World Championship.

Without the community sponsors, it would be impossible for our young team to compete in the World Robotics Competition in Houston TX.

We need your help. With very little time between competitions, we don't have enough time to seek big corporations' sponsorship, since most of them have a months-long process that we can't afford to wait for this year.

The competition starts on April 19 and we are counting on every little help we can get. We have flights, hotels, fees, insurance and of course, Robots to pay for and we are counting on you.
