Summers Story

On behalf of myself and Amanda Rasmussen we would like to Introduce you to this gorgeous little girl Summer Critchell, who is 9 years young and was diagnosed late last year in November 2020, with Leukaemia.

Life was turned on its head in an instant for this family of 6, especially for little Summer.

Summer unfortunately woke up one morning not feeling well with what she and her family thought was tonsillitis. They visited the doctor and she was rushed to hospital that day to learn very quickly that she unfortunately had cancer.

Fast forward 6 months, life for Summer has been challenging to say the least; having now gone through numerous rounds of chemo, it has now been told that she will endure another 20 weeks! While also taking on this new challenge Summer has no been told she has Osteonecrosis/Avascular necrosis, a disease resulting in the death of a bone caused by long term steroid use, steroid are a necessary part of her treatment. They now wait to see what options of treatment they will have once she beats Leukemia. They are looking at knee and hip replacements. For now she will have a new medication that will help slow the decay down.

Summer’s parents Jason and Alyson, have tried to stay positive and keep to the norm as much as possible for Summer and their 3 other children, Brodie, Brock & Indi.

Their strength and positivity that they have displayed during this trying time has been unbelievably admirable. This card they have been dealt with is definitely one that no one should be going through, but they will soldier on and do anything to make this good for their little girl.

We have recently learnt that Jason and Alyson have exhausted all their annual leave and so now Alyson has had to reduce the amount of days including her working hours to be there in support for Summer and her children.

This family have not asked for anything nor any help, but we as their friends know that this is a tough time for them mentality, emotionally and financially.
