Justice for Charles MK

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Laura and initially I was fundraising just for my little Chihuahua Charles to help with his ongoing costs after being almost killed by two loose dogs; behavioural rehabilitation for example, possible ongoing medical care etc.
Things have moved on since then.

We were successful in locating the lady who owned the dogs that attacked him.
She has not offered to reimburse us and therefore we have no choice but to take her to court and are asking please, for donations no matter how small, if you can kindly spare it to help contribute towards his legal costs.

On Sunday 31st July at around 12pm Charles was viciously attacked, unprovoked, by two unmuzzled, off leash border terriers that we are told (but have not yet proven) had attacked multiple dogs previously.
The attack was relentless and brutal and there is no doubt their intention was to kill him.

The damage was so extensive the vet had to use his ribs to reconstruct his chest, he was left with two collapsed lungs as the dogs bit through his body into his lungs.

The woman responsible did not provide us with any details, going so far as to even claim the blood all over him was hers as he had allegedly bitten her.

Miraculously, he survived the surgery and we were left with a total bill of over £4,000 (almost £5,000) which we paid.

Initially we were told his bill could exceed £15,000 and there was a good likelihood that he would die before the surgery could be done and that he may not survive the surgery.

Charles came home Thursday 4th August.
Amazingly he has been recovering well and the vet feels that when fully recovered (almost a year) he can probably live much like any other dog though we have already been made aware that due to the surgery on his chest he will always need careful handling as he will have weak spots and there will almost certainly be psychological damage from what he has been through so he will need extensive behavioural rehabilitation.

We were and continue to be blown away by the incredible kindness, generosity and willingness to help of our local community.
It was thanks to a tip off that we managed to track the lady down and her response was breathtaking.

She could not have appeared more unconcerned.
Absolutely no remorse whatsoever.
No apology for what her dogs had done. No offer to reimburse the bill.
No thought to ask how our dog was.
No thought to ask how our children (who witnessed the attack) were.
No emotion when showed the photograph of what her dogs did to him.

We will be seeking a court case against her for her to accept responsibility and reimburse his bill as she has made no offer to reimburse us for the damage her dogs have done.

In addition to the court case we will also be launching a campaign to petition government for a change in the law to tighten up the way dog on dog attacks are viewed and dealt with in law.

The current legislation is shockingly weak and it is absolutely wrong for the owners of dogs who seriously injure or even kill other dogs to be able to escape without punishment (as often happens with dog on dog attacks) and go on living their lives as normal after destroying the lives of their victims.

Any monies kindly donated that are left over from the court case will go towards our campaign.
Due to the risk of inadvertently helping the other owner with the court case we cannot at this time discuss the upcoming campaign much but it is coming.

We are incredibly grateful for all donations we receive no matter how big or small and hope you can help us x
