Xander's Tongue Cancer Healing Path

Hi,

This is Xander, or MC Xander as I have been known musically. This week I got diagnosed with tongue cancer.

There is a tumour sitting at the base of my tongue on the right side and it has spread into at least two of the lymph nodes in my throat.

Due to the location of the primary tumour – it sits touching one the key muscles of the tongue – my consultants feel that surgery isn't the right option as there would be a high likelihood I would lose the function of the tongue.. and I've heard that's not good for a beatboxer/singer!

So instead, they are going to put me on a fairly extreme course of targeted radiotherapy with chemo to assist that process.

The treatment lasts around two months, and I will be receiving radiotherapy five days a week. It's gonna be tough. But my doctors say I have a pretty good chance of it being cured by this process.

Of course, one of the main things I am worried about is lasting damage to my ability to express myself using my voice, which I have dedicated my life to and feels so tied up with my sense of soul purpose.

I know that I would adapt if could no longer sing or use my voice to create music, but I really am fighting for this piece of my soul and so I am trying to do everything I can to that end.

This gofundme was suggested by some of my friends. In this time I will probably not be able to take gigs, do much recording or lead singing sessions, all of which have been the only means I have had to support myself. I want to make sure my diet is full of the right things, and I am going to be taking the step to actually rent a room rather than only have my van as I don't want to deal with all the, ahem, less than ideal aspects of vanlife and have easy access to running (and heated) water! I also want to explore some alternative approaches to healing that might help me get through the trials of this "radical" radiotherapy I am about to receive.

I am looking into other sources of funding but I am also reaching out to my friends, family and maybe anyone that has enjoyed my music over the years to see if anyone would like to help me out in this way. It would also help if you could share it with your networks.

AND..... Really, no pressure at all if not. I feel such tremendous support already and I offer a deep bow and massive thank you to the beautiful humans that surround me, fill me up with love and make my fear disappear.
